Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining & Metals are seeking a Principal Process Engineer to work on our projects, studies and business development in North America. Location within USA is flexible providing that you are able to do some business travel to our Houston offices, to other locations for client meetings, and to industry events such as conferences. We are particularly interested in lithium and rare earths experience.

 

Job Summary:

As a principal process engineer, you will be leading and working with a team of process engineers to develop the process design for studies and projects. You will be providing technical leadership and expertise, and you will be working with your teams to help them develop their technical skills. You will be interfacing with clients to understand their requirements and needs, and developing solutions that are fit-for-purpose and cost effective. There will be opportunities for site-based work, international assignments and technical specialization based on your performance.

In this role, you will also be engaging with clients, developing new business and supporting the development of proposals. #LI-NP1

 

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead a process team on studies and projects.
  • Develop and check the process deliverables that are typical of detailed engineering (such as design criteria, mass & energy balances, process flow diagrams, equipment sizing calculations, P&IDs, control philosophy).
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, procurement, construction, vendors, consultants, subject matter experts and client teams to deliver the project successfully.
  • Contribute to the review and optimizations of project design, cost, safety, constructability, and schedule.
  • Meet with potential clients, understand their business needs and drivers, and help develop new business with these clients. Work closely with the Business Development team to provide technical input into proposals. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree in Metallurgy, Minerals Processing or Chemical Engineering and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of experience in the minerals industry in lieu of degree.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • At least 10 years’ experience as an engineer working in detailed design in the minerals industry, including direct experience in developing the typical detailed engineering deliverables.
  • Lithium and/or rare earths experience.
  • Well-developed skills in teamwork, communication and problem solving. Proficiency in English is essential.
  • Skills and experience in business development and client engagement.
  • Significant experience and contacts within the North American mining industry. Operational experience will be highly regarded.
