Project Overview:

Bechtel Equipment Operations, Inc. (BEO), a wholly owned Bechtel affiliate company, functions as the construction equipment asset manager of Bechtel Group and is actively engaged in projects across all business lines. In support of its involvement, BEO uses sophisticated estimating and scheduling systems to assist projects in developing bis proposals, equipment lease versus purchase analysis, tool and consumable utilization forecasts, scaffold estimating and supply, and overall construction fleet utilization plans. Headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas, BEO also manages several permanent global equipment storage and support facilities. 

Job Summary:

Expediting specialist reports to and receives operational direction and functional guidance from the BEO Supply Chain Manager. Responsible for coordination with BEO Equipment Yard Manager, BEO Equipment Yard mechanics and supervision, Project equipment managers and other procurement personnel assigned to BEO. Maintains contact with suppliers to monitor the progress of parts and equipment orders. This position is located at our BEO Equipment Yard in Houston, TX.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Contact suppliers to obtain equipment and equipment parts progress and shipment information.
  • Compiles data needed to prepare the critical items reports or other supplementary reports as required. Coordinates the accumulation of data from supplier and BEO Equipment Yard and issues reports for BEO Equipment Yard Manager.
  • Coordinates with planning and scheduling, BEO Equipment Manager and supervisors, mechanics, project equipment managers, and fleet to establish priorities, sequences and required delivery dates and instructs suppliers accordingly.
  • Attends make ready and equipment deployment coordination meetings, coordinates with yard supervisors and other field procurement staff to ensure that field material requirements receive timely attention and follow-up action.
  • Maintains a working file of expediting related documents and memoranda of conversations to record expediting activities. Maintains a system to initiate follow-up actions at appropriate times.
  • Monitors outstanding parts, reviews expediting reports, and takes corrective action on problems identified in the reports.
  • Subject to requirements, monitors the issuance of material requisitions, and other project and procurement actions affecting material deliveries. Assists in tracing missing material.
  • Coordinates shipping arrangements or tracking requests with the logistics representative, if required.
  • Coordinates customs clearance (for international shipments) of critical parts and equipment with Logistic representatives, if required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2–3 years of relevant industry experience in expediting major equipment and bulk materials, or 3–5 years of experience in expediting roles.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working familiarity procurement practices and general understanding of production methods.
  • Experience in expediting visits to supplier shops, monitoring supplier performance.
  • Capable of providing early warning to the BEO Equipment Yard Manager of supplier deficiencies or schedule slippage.
  • Knows how to deal professionally with suppliers and personnel.
  • Interprets schedules to ensure they are realistic, that required activities occur on time, and that interface between activities is maintained.
  • Knows the supplier warning and advisory process.
  • Skilled in preparing clear and comprehensive correspondence and reports.
  • Understands budget development and management.
  • Understands the Logistics and Supplier Quality process functions.
  • Good oral and written communication skills regarding technical and production matters with both project and supplier personnel.
