Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is critical to the green energy transition in the United States. Situated on the largest known lithium deposit in the North America, the multi-billion-dollar mine and processing facilities will eventually produce more than 16 times the current U.S. yearly output of lithium.

The battery-quality lithium carbonate made at Thacker Pass will be enough to power nearly 1 million electric vehicles each year. Bechtel is proud to offer opportunities on this project of international significance.

Job Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Control Systems & Instrumentation Senior Designer for the Mining & Metals team. The position will be responsible for Developing designs for complete and complex engineering systems, structures, and plant arrangements with minimum supervision. Planning and executing the presentation of these in graphic form or in detailed scale models. Working independently on design projects.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads or administers work of Control Systems designers and drafters for a business line technology to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings​ 
  • Develops designs for complete and complex Control Systems engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed​. Ensures Control Systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards 
  • Assists in constructing detailed scale models​ 
  • Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations​ 
  • Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved Control Systems design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy​ 
  • Participates in constructability reviews​ 
  • Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort​ 
  • Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents​ 
  • Reviews Control Systems design scope changes, as required, for project management​ 
  • Endorses or prepares reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use​ 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Highly proficient in S3D, SPI, Navisworks, AutoCAD and MicroStation, cable schedule, IO List and network architecture. Remote I/O Design of major DCS Vendors. Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to designs.
  • Skilled in reading P&IDs.
  • Skilled in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
  • Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to designs.
  • Knowledge of American industry standards and codes like NEC and ISA is desirable.
