Project Overview:

Mining and Metals

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

The EPC Transformation Strategy Manager leads the strategic definition and execution of the Mining & Metals (M&M) EPC Transformation agenda, driving delivery excellence that is faster, leaner, and more predictable, strengthening customer confidence and reinforcing Bechtel as a partner of choice. The role reports into the GBU EPC transformation manager.

This role integrates Digital Solutions (AI), Capital Intensity workstreams, Innovation Solutions, and Robotics in the Field into a cohesive transformation roadmap across the EPC value chain. The position bridges strategy and execution—ensuring transformation initiatives move from studies to execution, from pilots to scale, and from proof points to standard practice across regions and projects.

The role is designed for a mid-career professional (10–15 years) with strong EPC domain expertise, transformation leadership experience, and the ability to operationalize change through governance, metrics, and adoption.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Improve EPC delivery outcomes across cost, schedule, productivity, predictability, and competitiveness
  • Transition selected projects from EPCM to integrated EPC delivery models
  • Reduce capital intensity through early EPC decision influence and standardized, decision-enabling playbooks
  • Scale AI-enabled digital solutions that measurably support project performance
  • Build a credible repository of performance metrics and proof points to sustain adoption
  • Integrate AI, innovation solutions, and field robotics to enable step-change performance
  • Define and continuously refine the M&M EPC Transformation vision, value narrative, and success outcomes.
  • Support execution of the EPC Transformation Roadmap, integrating:
  • Translate strategic intent into quarterly execution plans, milestones, and adoption targets.
  • Ensure initiatives progress from study → pilot → execution → scale across projects and regions.
  • Coordinate execution of the Capital Intensity (CI) initiative, a decision-enabling playbook guiding selection of minimal viable solutions across the EPC value chain.
  • Support and integrate CI workstreams, including:
  • Ensure CI outputs directly support capex reduction, schedule certainty, and productivity improvements.
  • Embed CI concepts into business development value propositions and execution planning.
  • Drive adoption of transformation initiatives through training, communications, and embedded support.
  • Support enterprise objectives for digital, AI, and cybersecurity capability building.
  • Support strategic engagement with key clients to understand digital delivery expectations.
  • Translate customer expectations into internal delivery requirements and roadmaps.
  • Help position AI-enabled and capital-efficient delivery as a market differentiator in proposals and execution strategies.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires 10–15 years of experience in the EPC industry with strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls and demonstrated experience leading transformation or strategy-to-execution programs with measurable outcomes.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of EPC performance drivers:
    • Capital intensity
    • Productivity
    • Work packaging and workfront planning
    • Estimating and EAC
    • Schedule, cost, risk, and change management
  • Experience working with digital, analytics, and AI teams to translate business needs into scalable solutions.
  • Proven ability to operate in cross-functional, regional, and global delivery environments.
  • Strong executive communication skills and comfort presenting to senior leadership.
  • Experience transitioning projects from EPCM to EPC delivery models (Preferred)
  • Exposure to AI/analytics solutions such as copilots, document intelligence, forecasting, and performance dashboards (Preferred)
  • Experience integrating innovation solutions or robotics into project execution (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with capital project benchmarking, productivity analysis, or time-and-motion studies (Preferred)
