Job Summary:
Responsible for the technical accuracy and allignment of multiple projects in support of the BCOI Welding program. Perform interpretation of construction codes, standards and engineering specifications in order to develop and write corporate welding procedures and standards. Perform / Coordinate reviews of subcontractor/vendor welding & NDE submittals to ensure compliance to construction codes and specifications. Provide technical direction and support to project assigned Lead Field Welding Engineers regarding welding & NDE related issues. Assist in the development of multiple project staffing plans, provide Annual Reviews of personnel assigned to his/her projects and staff. Assist in the ssignment of personnel to projects as requesed. Responsibilities include oversight of the global construction field welding and NDE special process programs, ISO-9001, ASME, AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASNT or other design codes or specifications compliance for construction and the performance of the welding and NDE programs in the assigned region. As the designated individual responsibilities include administering NDE personnel cetification examinations and performing Periodic Technical Performance Assessments for all assigned welding engineers. #LI-TH1
Major Responsibilities:
- Key point contact for welding- related issues and initiatives for his/her assigned projects. Has regular interface with Lead Field Welding Engineers, Project Field Engineers, and site management, from the various business lines as required.
- Provide technical and administrative support and direction for project construction field welding engineers including training & development.
- The development, preparation, control and maintenance of the welding and special process procedures, standards and manuals.
- Perform project audits in accordance with the applicable Quality Manual.
- Provide assistance in the certification of home office and field welding engineers and specialists.
- Champion opportunities for home office & field welding engineers/specialists to look for new or improved work processes.
- Support project lead field welding engineers in resolving personnel and technical related matters as they arise.
- Participate with staff personnel from welding and NDE services, Engineering & Construction in the development of construction related field welding and NDE applications and policies in the GBU's and EU's.
- Provide assistance to the Project Field Engineer and other project team members on all construction welding, NDE and special process control matters.
- Perform training on welding and NDE related issues to organizations and departments outside construction field welding services, including participation on Code and Industry committees.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Welding & NDE Services.
- Project Support: Support project lead field welding engineer in resolving personnel and technical related matters as they arise.
- Help establish and implement welding program.
- Provide technical support for a welder training program if required.
- Assist in the coordination of NDE Vendors
- Monitor for best practices to support similar programs
- Assist in the procurement of welding equipment, consumables and supplies.
- Maintain and implement corporate responsibilities.
- Collect results, trends and activities and report to the Manager of Welding & NDE Services.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Technology or Materials Science with 10+ years welding engineering experience in home office and field assignments, / or 15+ years Welding Engineering, experience in home office and field assignments with a minimum of 5+ years experience on heavy industrial construction projects.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of ASME, AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM and ASNT codes, specifications and standards.
- Must be certifiable by written examination to Bechtel's nondestructive examination requirements as NDE Level II in Radiographic, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant and Visual Examination.
- Proficient in multiple welding processes applications.
- Postion also requires multiple industry business line experience with at least 10 years experience as a Lead Field Welding Engineer on direct hire projects.
- Strong technical background and knowledge of all phases of welding applications and methods, and non-destructive examination relating to construction activities.
- Proficient in the development of technical presentations
- Available and able to travel extensively to support welding needs on a worldwide basis.
