Job Summary:

The Communications Lead will act as a strategic partner to executive leadership and local management and will also hold a leadership role within the Global Corporate Affairs team. This role is critical for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that align with business objectives and support enterprise-wide initiatives. Success includes enhancing the organization’s reputation and effectively communicating its energy-related offerings and expertise across global markets. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader capable of managing cross-functional teams and driving strategic communication initiatives both internally and externally.


This role is pivotal in shaping and delivering Bechtel's communication strategies, ensuring that messaging aligns with the company's goals and values while driving positive outcomes across diverse global markets. #LI-KL1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Development and Execution:
    • External Communications: Formulate and implement strategic external communications plans to bolster business objectives and elevate the company’s brand reputation.
    • Internal Communications: Create and manage internal communication strategies to boost employee engagement, nurture a positive corporate culture, and ensure clear, consistent messaging.
  • Executive Advisory:
    • Partner with Energy executive management to provide expert counsel on communication strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and effectively addressing key issues.
    • Contribute to and influence enterprise-wide strategies as a member of the Global Corporate Affairs leadership team.
  • Issues Management:
    • Collaborate with the Global Corporate Affairs team to oversee communications during reactive, proactive, and predictive scenarios, including managing crises and developing strategic responses.
  • Opportunity Identification:
    • Identify and leverage communication opportunities to enhance Bechtel’s external stakeholder engagement and boost overall enterprise visibility in collaboration with the Global Corporate Affairs team.
  • Digital and Media Management:
    • Collaborate with Global Corporate Affairs to oversee the creation of content for Bechtel’s owned digital channels, including the Energy employee intranet, audio/visual materials, and social media platforms. Ensure that all content aligns with the company’s brand and communication strategies.
    • Cultivate and manage relationships with media outlets, preparing and delivering media content to effectively communicate Bechtel’s messages and enhance media presence.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals, including direct and indirect reports, to ensure the effective execution of communication strategies and achievement of desired outcomes.
    • Engage in talent development discussions to identify and cultivate emerging leaders within the Global Corporate Affairs team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience in developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies across multiple channels.
  • Strong advisory skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior executives on strategic communication issues.
  • Expertise in managing both external and internal communications in various contexts, including crisis management.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools and platforms, including social media and multimedia content creation.
  • Excellent leadership abilities with experience managing teams within a matrixed environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate communication effectiveness and drive data-informed decisions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a global or large-scale organizational setting.
  • Background in a communications agency.
  • Expertise in crisis communication and issues management.
  • Familiarity with emerging communication technologies and trends.
