Project Overview:
The Bechtel Welding and Applied Technology Center is a world-class applied development facility focused on continuous project support along with research and development initiatives focused on construction materials, methods and advanced welding processes. The Testing Laboratory contains a machine shop, mechanical testing equipment, computed tomography radiography, optical microscopy, materials characterization and corrosion testing. Application of this equipment is to provide physical material testing in accordance with ASME, ASTM, API, and other applicable codes and standards.
Job Summary:
The Chief Electrical Technologist will identify emerging technology, continuously evaluate best electrical installation practice, and proactively provide business lines and project teams strategic electrical construction advantage. Will manage electrical engineering development projects, planning and technical reference library for the Bechtel Electrical Training Program. Will advocate for operating and capital funding to ensure the Electrical Training Program within Bechtel’s Welding and Applied Technology Center remains on the leading edge of electrical installation technology, automated tools, and education programs to upskill electrical execution.

Major Responsibilities:

The Chief Electrical Technologist reports to the Corporate Manager of Welding, within EPC Functions at Bechtel’s Welding and Applied Technology Center
- Supervision Exercised
Interfaces with Bechtel’s Electrical Training Program, Electrical Engineering Functions, and Project Sites to support targeted training, improved field installation means and methods, and incorporate lessons learned into engineering designs.

Interfaces with customers, academic institutions, suppliers, and industry advisory boards to resolve, train, and deploy effective training and automation solutions to highly complex electrical installation, terminations, and systems. Builds and maintains technical relationships with customer electrical technologists, electrical materials and equipment manufacturers to enhance collaboration, guide new product development and leverage Bechtel’s global EPC execution for simplified electrical field execution.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Identify new electrical installation tools and methods of construction which provide competitive advantage to Bechtel and differentiate us from our competitors
- Lead electrical engineering installation initiatives to apply emerging technology solutions for projects and establish Bechtel as the global EPC electrical leader
- Maintain technical relationships with customers, suppliers, electrical materials and equipment manufacturers to enhance collaboration, guide new product development, and leverage Bechtel’s global EPC execution for simplified electrical field execution.
- Provide technical direction for electrical training and applied development of install tools and robotics through collaborative identification of key needs across GBUs
- Actively engage with Project leadership and Subject Matter Experts to continuously identify electrical training, tools, and needed improvements
- Prepare technical presentations for management, electrical engineers, clients, and external educational seminars
- Develop, implement, and maintain a database of electrical training, best practices, and electrical tools and robotics to continuously update, inform, and educate construction personnel on available improvements to electrical execution methods
- Interface with GBUs, business lines and projects to improve electrical install quality and consistency on projects through process selection guidelines, approved electrical installation tools and materials, active maintenance of best practices
- Contribute to industry advisory committees, codes of construction, design handbooks and peer-reviewed journals
- Prepare, review and implement annual operating and development budgets
- Champion electrical initiatives that affect the organization’s long term strategic goals and objectives
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, M.S. or Ph.D. preferred, and 10-15 years of relevant work experience
- Extensive electrical installation and electrical systems experience incorporating execution, tools and efficiency while achieving quality installation performance
- Active participant in electrical codes of construction and professional societies and continuing professional development.
- Experience in electrical design and development
- Experience in effective communication providing the analytical skills necessary to formulate technical responses effective within multiple levels of an organization.
- Experience working as a team player in a multi-disciplined environment.
