Technical Architect

Bechtel is seeking a Technical Architect to join our team in Reston, VA and help develop and manage the future-state technology footprint of our data centric execution strategy and implementation.   This position will report to the Enterprise Architect and work closely with our Solution Architect, Systems Manager, process leads, system leads and other entities to ensure cross-functional alignment in driving the work process, systems and architecture requirements and many of the key design paradigms, principles and methodologies into our enterprise program.  The position offers ample opportunity to "make a difference" and to be an active part of the decision-making process that leads to improvements and positive change across the implementation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver through leadership the turning of abstract and logical concepts into IT solutions – usable, integrated and secure from day-one.
  • Align overall architectural components including:
    • Development tools and languages for front-end (Web, Android and Apple) and server-side solutions
    • Patterns and best-practices for multi-tiered distributed applications, integration, information security, database design
    • Knowledgeable in big-data techniques, leading to rapid integration with machine-learning and related AI tools
    • DevOps tools, and tool-chaining to achieve end-to-end automation
  • Have deep technical understanding, in-depth knowledge and experience in:
    • SQL, NoSQL, Graph, Triple Store and Document databases
    • Master, Reference and Metadata Management, Data Quality, Integration, Interoperability
    • Business Process Automation, Process Orchestration, UI/UX, Smart Machines
    • Information Security, Identity and Access Management
    • Multi-Cloud environment
    • EPC industry applications and tools
  • Participate with SMEs and Information Technology team members in the development of system solution architecture applications and technology components. These activities will include:
    • Evaluating technologies sourced from cloud services and implemented on-premise
    • Preparing material for IT Change Management and communication
    • Leading prototyping activities including process definition, gap analysis, definition of software requirements and associated software development
    • Leading the development of future state tools and associated integrations that will enable a data centric implementation
    • Assisting in solution design and development for key activities
  • Hands on experience in designing, coding, coaching and implementing one or more of the following technologies and languages:
    • Java, JavaScript, NodeJS, Python, JSON-LD, mobile and server-side development patterns, BPMN and its implementation workflow engines, integration and interoperability, information security and DevOps best practices.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent EPC work experience.
  • 14 + years functional, Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) or automation experience in the EPC or related industries.
  • 5+ years project deployed experience.
  • Experience and or understanding of data centric execution.
  • Technical knowledge of functional processes and systems, processes, and applications for engineering and construction methods and materials, usage of engineering applications to produce deliverables.
  • Good understanding of the information lifecycle of project data – how information is exchanged between functions/disciplines and ownership of data transitions throughout the life of a project
  • Excellent automation skills.  Good understanding of the link between work process and tools.  Strong skills around using tools to create, view and edit data.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to think out of the box and questioning everything.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Knowledge around data governance and master data management
  • Knowledge around data quality and data integration
  • Software development a plus
  • Knowledge of Design Thinking
