Job Summary:

The global energy transition and government regulations are resulting in unprecedented growth in the renewable power generation market. The Bechtel Renewables & Clean Power business is responding to this global challenge and growing its capability in the development and construction of renewable power generation projects globally. Bechtel is responding to the growth in the market by expanding our execution team to support the large pipeline of work internationally and specifically in the North America and Australia markets.

Bechtel is actively executing projects and has a development pipeline for renewables projects around the world, with a geographical focus in North America and Australia. We are seeking a Deputy Project Engineering Manager to support the technical development and delivery of major projects.  

 

In support of our plans to further develop and execute projects, the Deputy Project Engineering Manager will participate in all stages of the project lifecycle, including conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, and project execution. The Deputy Project Engineering Manager will contribute to technical feasibility studies, value engineering, cost development and strategic planning for the project. Reports to the Project Engineering Manager and/or the Functional Manager of Engineering.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical insight and value engineering during development of engineering designs.
  • Coordinates technical scope with Construction and Procurement Functions.
  • Provides support to Business Development, securing new work and external engagement.
  • Manages multi-discipline team executing conceptual design, detailed design, and project execution including establishing and managing the overall engineering budget, maintaining ownership, and ensures execution within approved budgets.
  • Establishes / manages and reviews the engineering project schedule for the project/program carries out any actions to prioritize /re-schedule the engineering deliverables and personnel necessary to meet the overall schedule.
  • Participates in internal and external review meetings with US and Australia based project teams and customers.
  • Instigates and reviews TIC reduction/ value engineering opportunities / proposals.
  • Provides leadership and inspires performance of the project team.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A recognized bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university with over 20 years of working experience with 10+ years of relevant experience in Project Engineering role. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Professional Engineering License from US is preferred.
  • Experience in PVSyst or SAM Software for study, sizing and data analysis of complete PV systems is preferred.
  • Experience in design development, feasibility studies, detailed design and/or owner's engineering work (technical specifications, RFP evaluations, design review, construction supervision). 
  • Sufficient demonstrable professional experience in the renewable power industry (solar, wind, battery storage, etc.). 
  • Demonstrable engineering skills and experience including solar array layout and performance calculations, AC and DC electrical design, high voltage substation design.
  • Specific areas of technical expertise would be viewed positively:
  • Experience with design and integration of solar, wind, and battery storage OEM equipment.
  • Experience with layout and construction planning of renewable power generation projects.
  • Management of multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, procurement, construction.
  • Field experience shall be added advantage.
