DEP- Master Data Management & Data Governance Data Steward

This role is for someone who not only exudes enthusiasm, is intellectually curious about our business; but also, is passionate about the value driven from data as well as the need to manage assets critical to our customers and our business. 


Key for your success in this role is your proven experience in Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Governance (DG), a champion across all data management activities. Technically, you will be sound with experience in Data Quality (DQ) and implementing DG policies and procedures, conducting lifecycle analysis as well as facilitating resolution of data quality issues across stakeholders.


The DEP Master Data Management & Data Governance Data Steward role reports to the DEP Master Data Management & Data Governance Lead (MDM & DG Lead) and works closely with DEP Enterprise Architect, DEP Solution Architect, Process Leads, System Leads, and other entities to ensure cross-functional alignment in driving the data specifications, systems and architecture requirements and many of the key design paradigms, principles and methodologies into DEP.  The position offers ample opportunity to "make a difference" and to be an active part of the decision-making process that leads to improvements and positive changes across the DEP implementation.


Essential Duties:

This role will lead and manage

        • our master data management and data governance platforms,
        • and associated integration, operation and health of the underlying systems. 

The key objectives for this role are to:

  • Deliver and manage, on behalf of the MDM & DG Lead, our future state MDM and DG platforms and operations.
  • Participate, with other MDM and DG members in the development of setup and initial operation of MDM and DG platform systems. These activities will include
    • Champin MDM, DG and DQ practices throughout the enterprise by building/maintaining relationships with stakeholders
    • Create and enfrce standards, policies and procedures for effective data management and alignment with existing ones
    • Hands-n work with Data Owners, Subject Matter Experts (SME), and other stewards to understand what the data is and how it is used in the business process.  Fllow the data to understand how it is stored, replicated, transformed and used
    • Gather, review and validate data requirements (data prcess, functional, data quality and data governance) and specifications to establish trusted data sources, and ensures the right controls are built around the flow of creation and maintenance of master data
    • Mdel and facilitate the approval of data definitions, data quality rules, data profiling, data lineage, business process flows, and data mapping
    • Identifies surce systems, gathers source system values, and conducts source to target mapping
    • Supprt the assessment of source systems data models and data structures; proposes new standardized data models
    • Familiar with cannical and semantic models
    • Execute perational MDM and DG activities
    • Participates in system testing and user acceptance testing activities
    • Supprt the DG council
    • Supprt DG workflows
    • Creates user stries and executes work using Agile methodology
    • Recmmend and establish data quality metrics and requirements, including defining the values, ranges, and parameters that are acceptable
    • Recmmend and establish procedures for detection and correction of data quality issues
    • Create relevant and actinable reporting by analyzing large data sets and combining diverse sources of data.  Sme major analysis themes include Data Quality, Archiving, Data Ownership, and Data Classification
    • Perfrm regular data quality and integrity checks
    • Develp high-performing domain team members and enhance the MDM and DG team’s effectiveness through coaching, training, and mentoring
  • Participate in DEP Global Design to support workshop and requirement needs
    • Capture and maintain a cmprehensive business glossary and data dictionary
    • Cnduct SME MDM/DG and DQ tool training
    • Supprt onboarding of initial MDM content
    • Prvide onboarding materials to workshop participants

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent EPC work experience
  • 7+ years of technical data experience, including combinations of: data stewardship, data modeling, software development, and reporting/analytics delivery
  • 5+ years working knowledge of writing clear and concise technical and user documentation, including combinations of: DG policies, project charters, use cases, user stories, test cases, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
  • 5+ years of experience with data quality, analytics, master data management, data catalog, and data integration tools.
  • 5+ years of experience in operationalizing Data Governance, Data Stewardship and Data Quality
  • 3+ years of experience in leading projects, planning, coordinating and monitoring project activities
  • 3+ years of experience in multi-disciplinary teams to normalize data and develop company-wide polices around data, classifications, and controlled vocabularies in large organizations
  • Sound knowledge of data management life cycle, data governance, master data, data quality and capability maturity frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver multiple concurrent project or large-scale individual projects
  • Demonstrated ability to be a leader in your data domain, and lead others through facilitation and consensus-building
  • Demonstrated ability to present ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences in organized manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an Agile fashion and delivering in a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience with relational and non-relational database systems and associated query languages and reporting solutions
  • Experience and or understanding of a digital transformation program
  • Able to not just lead but produce tangible deliverables (e.g., models, requirements, process diagrams)
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to think out of the box and questioning everything


Preferred Requirements:

  • Needs an understanding of the information lifecycle of project data – how information is exchanged between functions/disciplines and ownership of data transitions throughout the life of a project.  Who the owner of trusted data is at any point in a project.
  • Good understanding of the various codes and data standards that we use on projects (e.g. Goods & Services Codes, stock codes, etc.)
  • Having worked in more than one function is a plus
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) is preferred
  • Relevant professional affiliations such as TDWI, DGPO, PMI are preferred
  • Experience demonstrating and understanding of PII, CCPA, GDPR, Data Security and other data compliance frameworks
  • Knowledge of Design Thinking
