Control System - Special Systems Engineer (Gurugram)

Plans and conducts independent work within a global business unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria for Special systems. The Special Systems Engineer will assist in design of the Video Surveillance, Access Control, Public Address, Centralized Building Management System, Fire Alarm and Detection System, Structured Cabling, IP Television, LAN, VOIP Telephone System and Car Park Management Systems at an International Airport. 

Supports project proposal activities, FEED, Engineering and Construction phase of the project.  Devises new approaches to solving problems.


A.  Supervision Received

  • Performs most assignments independently with instructions as to the general results expected.  Receives technical guidance from Engineering Specialists or Supervisors on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.

B.  Supervision Exercised

  • Provides technical direction and assigns work to subordinate engineers, designers, drafters, technicians and others who assist in performing specific assignments.

C.  Contacts

  • Independently contacts vendor’s representatives and project field personnel to gather or give information.  Contacts client counterparts as directed.



  1. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates conceptual and detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group. 
  2. Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 2-D and 3-D computer aided design and computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools. 
  3. Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for equipment.
  4. Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  5. Assists in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provides input for their performance evaluations.
  6. Interface with vendors and clients.
  7. Prepares and review bids for contracts and material requisitions and makes recommendation.
  8. Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  9. Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.
  10. Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  11. Initiates requests for specialized professional services when required.
  12. Reviews project engineering progress against approved schedules, evaluates changes and takes corrective action when required.
  13. Manages the flow of information required from third parties to assure the timely progress of the engineering work.
  14. Ensures that Technical Risk Assessments are comprehensive and complete, safety practices and procedures are implemented, and engineering design and corresponding design documentation are in compliance with project Quality Assurance plan and procedures.
  15. Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.
  16. Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  17. Conduct Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Test for Building Management System.



  • Technical knowledge of modern state-of-the art SPECIAL SYSTEMS, Management, scheduling and coordination of design and construction, preferably on large airport or complex commercial building construction projects.
  • Work closely with other Specialists and the Fiber Optic Engineer to ensure Local Area Network provisions and Telecommunications Distribution System cabling is provided for systems under his purview.
  • Fully conversant in developing detailed System Architecture drawing using BACnet Protocol.
  • Fully conversant with Code requirements of ASHRAE - 135-2016 for BACnet-A Data Communication Protocol for Building Automation and Control Networks
  • Preparation of Functional Design Specification and Software Design Specification of Centralized Building Management System
  • The candidate Skill set to include some or all of the following:
    • Video Surveillance,
    • Access Control,
    • Public Address,
    • Centralized Building Management System,
    • Fire Alarm and Detection System,
    • Structured Cabling,
    • IP Television,
    • LAN, VOIP Telephone System and
    • Car Park Management Systems
  • Coordination of multiple contractors in a wide campus environment.
  • Loading and Checking of System Configurations of Vendors
  • Network Management functions for all BACnet devices.
  • Thorough knowledge on standard integrations with third party mechanical & electrical sub-systems
  • Develop FAT and Site Acceptance Test Procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, engineering and design calculations and corresponding reviews.
  • Understands the application of engineering procedures, relevant design guides.  Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D), and relevant Standard Computer Applications to perform the work.
  • Understanding of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.


Has demonstrated skill in supervision in a Lead position for minimum 5 years.


The above is normally acquired through:

  • A recognized degree in Instrumentation & Control/ Electronics and Communications from an accredited college or university with minimum 17 years’ experience.
