Construction Specialist - Bridges and Viaducts (Gurugram)

Plan and conduct independent work as a Construction Specialist on large Infrastructure Projects consisting of bridges and viaducts, supporting Project proposal activities, FEED, Engineering and Construction phase of the project. Shall be responsible to support Home Office Construction activities on Infrastructure Projects executed in India office.

Construction function in Bechtel India provides Field Non-Manual services, Constructability reviews, construction automation support and various other home office construction services to projects executed in India and international jobsites. 




A.  Supervision Received

  • Receives operational supervision from a Project Engineering Manager/Construction Manager.
  • Receives administrative and technical supervision from a Manager of Construction.


B.  Supervision Exercised

  • Exercises operational supervision over the construction engineers and designers assigned to the project or portion of the project.
  • Provides technical guidance to construction engineers, design engineers, designers, drafters who perform specific tasks on a project.


C.  Contacts

  • As a point of Bechtel-Client contact on construction aspects of assigned project or portions of a project, maintains regular contact with project field personnel for progress of work, exchange of information and other Construction and Engineering interface activities. Contacts client counterparts as directed.



  1. Participate in Constructability meetings, planning meetings at early stage and initiate constructability program on the project, including other home office construction activities in accordance with relevant SWPPs, IWPPs and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  2. Supervise project constructability program ensuring effective implementation of Construability, Construction Lessons, Design for Safe Construction, construction productivity initiatives, datacentric construction and other work processes identified on the project.
  3. Supports preparation of project execution plan, including providing Construction’s input to Project Controls on sequencing and scheduling of field activities on infrastructure projects like motorways, viaducts and bridges.
  4. Assist construction coordinators, construction engineers with their recommendation of changes in design or construction methods.
  5. Maintain effective interface between construction teams at other Bechtel offices and jobsites ensuring construction knowledge, lessons learned and construction’s input to design is incorporated.
  6. Supervise construction engineering efforts, such as preparation of construction method statements, installation work packages, construction MTOs, constriction estimation for bulks, estimation of indirect services involved in construction of motorways, bridges, viaducts projects.
  7. Work with Project Engineers, Project Controls Leads, Procurement Leads, ensuring effective inter-functional interface on the projects.
  8. Monitor completeness of engineering data in construction applications.
  9. Advises project team of obvious design discrepancies or trends that may be detrimental to the safe construction of the projects.
  10. Assists in the preparation of construction manuals, field non-manual support proposals, internal desktop procedures for construction activities.
  11. Review project proposals and assist project development team and estimation team with construction input on construction schedule, manpower, equipment, modularization & preassembly suggestions and project execution plan.
  12. Assess method statements prepared by Construction Contractors, jobsites during proposal stage ensuring project plan, field activities are compliant to airport regulations and operational requirements.
  13. Develop project specific inspection test plans, quality assurance procedures for all major commodities
  14. Review engineering deliverables submitted by various package vendors and provides construction input on sequencing, constructability.    
  15. Support development of project automation plan by providing project specific construction automation requirements.
  16. Monitor execution methodology on projects to learn from improvements and to promote continuous improvement
  17. Ensures that Technical Risk Assessments are comprehensive and complete, safety practices and procedures are implemented, and engineering design and corresponding design documentation follow project Quality Assurance plan and construction procedures.
  18. Champions the creation of a project work environment, supported by leadership on the project/program, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  19. Review of Contract construction requirements including Client’s specifications.
  20. Reviews and approves construction procedures, change orders, material requisitions and specifications for construction or procurement use.


JOB KNOWLEDGE / Experience:


  • Experience on Infrastructure Projects, hands-on experience and knowledge of Bridges and viaducts building construction activities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of bridge construction, Fire Protection, Electrical requirements for bridges and viaducts.
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of construction activities on a bridge or viaduct including jobsite setup, interface with transport authorities and final handover.
  • Shall have experience of executing construction & planning and construction management activities associated with construction of bridges and viaducts, utilities, drainage systems, lighting. Including sequencing of work activities and interface management on operational busy bridges.
  • Thorough knowledge of various other process like quantity & progress reporting, construction quality procedures, system turnover, interface with Startup and airport operation.
  • Ability to review physical design through 3D Plant model and familiar with BIM activities.
  • Plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of construction techniques, procedures and criteria to airport projects.
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes & standards and practices governing projects.
  • Knowledge of ES&H requirements especially associated with airport construction.
  • Strong leadership, communication and writing skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications like MS Office, SmartPlant Review, BIM and other computer-based project applications used for construction of bridges and viaducts.


The above is normally acquired through:

  • Recognized degree in Civil engineering or scientific discipline, or specialized courses in construction management and techniques, OR
  • A professional license from a recognized licensing board, OR
  • Progressive work experience including supervisory / managerial experience in leadership roles like Project Field Engineer, Project Superintendent, Construction Manager or Site Manager
  • Shall have more than 15 years of field experience on large Infrastructure projects including Bridges and viaducts and international long-term assignments.


Demonstrated skill in supervision in a Lead position for minimum 5 years.
