Job Summary:

Located at the Gurgaon office, maintains strategic relationship with key suppliers of Mechanical (preferably Static) equipment, performs pre-qualification of new suppliers to expand Bidder’s list, supports formation of acquisition strategy for mechanical equipment for projects, stays abreast with Market challenges/opportunities and shares latest updates with project teams and senior management on as required basis. Gets engaged in formation and administration of purchase orders when required. Communicates with suppliers and Bechtel project personnel to establish clear definition of requirements, and to assure performance to purchase order terms and conditions.

  •  May provide supervision, training and guidance to other purchasing/expediting personnel as required.

Contacts

  • Maintains working relationships with project Supply Chain personnel and project discipline personnel in order to perform assigned duties.
  • Maintains working relationships with bidders and suppliers involved with the performance of assigned tasks.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supports projects in developing sourcing strategy for Mechanical Equipment and/or other commodities to deliver best value to our customers while giving due consideration to Project's Approved Manufacturers List, project financing considerations and compliance to tariff and quota risk. Contributes to the establishment of project-level goals.
  • Identifies and qualifies new suppliers as per business needs and maintains pre-qualification documents submitted by Suppliers
  • Keeps track of developments, opportunities & challenges in acquisition of Mechanical Equipment and/or other commodities and keeps project management teams and senior management abreast of same.
  • Maintains commodity heat map, tariffs and quotas across major economies
  • Supports key/critical supplier relationships with supplier's senior project personnel executing orders to ensure performance of the work.
  • Responsible for assigned orders from development through closure, to include engagement with Engineering on purchase requisition development, the acquisition and delivery of purchases, and order closeout; to include supporting management of back-charges and claims.
  • Communicates with suppliers and personnel within Bechtel to establish clear definition of requirements, and to assure performance to purchase order terms and conditions.
  • Compiles data needed to prepare the critical items reports or other supplementary reports as required. 
  • Oversees supplier performance and ensures supplier evaluation reports are used for efficient execution of ongoing/ future projects

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a reputed University. Degree in Mechanical Engineering with post-graduate specialization in Supply Chain Management preferred. 10-18 years of industry experience including 6-10 years in purchasing and expediting of Mechanical Equipment in a reputed company with min. 5 years as Mechanical category lead in Static, Rotary (Pumps/Compressors) or Process & Utility Packages.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to source and expedite Mechanical Equipment for mega projects in Energy, Infrastructure, or mining industry.
  • Excellent techno-commercial knowledge of types of Mechanical Equipment, manufacturing capabilities and capacities of domestic & global suppliers. Good understanding of Mechanical equipment including Process requirements, product specification, testing requirements, familiarity with international codes & standards like ASME, API, ASTM etc. Equipment fabrication steps and methods. Well conversant with recent advancements in the industry and supply chain challenges/opportunities. 
  • Proficiency and experience in the formation, administration and expediting of purchase orders with knowledge of handling post order change management
  • Proficiency in all phases of procurement including knowledge of and skill in communicating effectively with suppliers, bidder prequalification, preparation of bidders’ lists, compilation of bid requests, negotiation of contracted terms and conditions, and award of commitments.
  • Proficiency in the administration of commitments, monitoring supplier performance, back-charge procedures and the resolution of claims and disputes.
  • Skilled in working with and communicating effectively both orally and in writing with other project functional groups.
  • Capable of interpreting schedules to ensure they are realistic, that required activities occur on time, and that interface between activities is maintained.
  • Capable of providing early warning of supplier deficiencies.
