Job Summary:

The primary responsibility will be to engage with engineering to perform home office tasks related to CSU for varios types of projects, primarily related to energy generation. In addition the role may require travelling to projects to perform the on-site testing and validation of the comms and controls systems associated with the project through the pre-commissioning, commissioning and startup/initial operations phases. This will also include instrumentation testing for any instrumentation on the project (relatively limited) to include loop (I/O) testing and support of electrical testing if required

Major Responsibilities:

•    Engage with engineering to ensure accuracy of data required by CSU 

Populate CSU data to support commissioning activities and Advanced Work Packaging 

Perform loop checks, interpret and validate DCS/PLC control logic, perform integration and testing of various systems, troubleshoot PLC hardware/software issues.
•    Be familiar and work with Package Vendors for commissioning PLC systems, ensure operation of the facility from a remote operation centre.
•    Support electrical testing as may be required during commissioning.
•    Provide technical direction to field manual craft to perform assigned tasks; assist in monitoring and controlling craft performance as reported by the QURR.
•    Prepare DCN and FCR, coordinate with Engineering to document as-built conditions and/or properly resolve deficiencies in field.
•    Support LOTO program as required, potentially as a part time Tagging Authority or Authorised operator.•    Prepare scoping diagrams, coordinate with Construction for turnover of systems.
•    Use of TeamWorks, SetRoute, Book binder and Smart Completions, including the assignment and administration of digital test records through Smart Completions.
•    Assist in preparing, awarding and administering specialty subcontracts to support commissioning activities (e.g. meter, relay and emissions testing).
•    Complete testing per STCP and SWPP, pre-op procedures and any other project specific procedures as may be required.
•    Complete all test records, data sheets, etc. to fully document testing activities
•    Prepare system turnover packages in accordance with project procedures by assembling and reviewing all system test documentation (all disciplines) for adequacy and completeness
•    Participate in system turnover walkdowns, initiate, track and resolve punch list items as required.
•    Prepare, storage and maintenance requirements, for equipment’s while maintaining necessary documentation in database.
•    Work hours as required, including shiftwork, overtime, weekends, nightshift and holidays as necessary to support the project
•    Perform other duties as directed in support of project activities
•    Should be familiar and abide by Bechtel safety procedures.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Typically requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in engineering, a hard science or mathematics and a minimum of 5 -7 years of relevant experience or 9 -11 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Word and Excel and Bechtel Standard applications TeamWorks and SetRoute as applicable;
  • Must be able to walk at least 3 miles per day over uneven ground, be able to climb and descend stair towers 100’ in height at least 6 times per shift, climb and descend ladders 25’ in height at least 6 times per shift, climb on and maneuver on temporary scaffolds to access project equipment.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Prior experience in testing and commissioning required.
  • Experience working with testing and commissioning data.   
  • Solar power project experience desirable.
  • Combined Cycle power experience desirable.
