Project Overview:
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S.
This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.
The candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Pecos, Texas. This position is contingent upon project award.
Job Summary:
The Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Specialist / Trainer is responsible for the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Safety, and Health training programs that support Bechtel’s ESH Management System and project execution requirements. This role operates with independent judgment and technical depth, translating regulatory, contractual, and Bechtel ESH requirements into effective, risk‑based learning experiences for employees, supervisors, and subcontractors across projects and offices. The position serves as a subject‑matter resource for ESH training, supports incident prevention and continuous improvement initiatives, and partners closely with Project ESH Managers, GBU ESH leadership, and functional stakeholders
The position reports to the Safety Services Lead and/or Deputy ES&H Manager. #LI-VB1
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops, delivers, and maintains ESH training programs aligned with Bechtel standards, the ESH Management System, regulatory requirements, and contract commitments.
- Designs training for multiple delivery methods, including classroom instruction, field‑based training, workshops, coaching sessions, and awareness campaigns.
- Customizes training content based on project risk profiles, workforce composition, and identified trends from incidents, audits, and assessments.
- Supports onboarding and refresher training, including New Employee Safety Orientation, supervisor training, and task‑specific ESH instruction.
- Provides technical guidance and training support to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, Procurement, and other functions regarding ESH program execution.
- Assists with the development and review of ESH Management Plans, training matrices, and awareness programs to ensure compliance with Bechtel and regulatory requirements.
- Participates in risk assessments, incident investigations, and lessons‑learned reviews, ensuring training content reflects real‑world causes and prevention strategies.
- Provides assistance in a wide variety of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtel's ES&H program and
ES&H Management System to include aiding compliance with Bechtel's ES&H standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments - Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities
- Maintains ES&H databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions
- Performs statistical analysis of ES&H data to help identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement
- Helps identify and coordinate any unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H personnel
- Leads teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ES&H issues
- Prepares communications, writes reports, and prepares documents for program execution and records retention
- Assists with incident notifications, leads investigations, and prepares incident investigation reports
- Recommends and implements improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential
- Participates in and supports employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs
- Researches issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice
- Develops and implements safety and health communication and awareness measures including but not limited to training presentations, flyers, posters, signage, and other communication and training media
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 1-2 years of relevant experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing abilities.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering ESH training in construction, infrastructure, industrial, or large‑project environments.
- Ability to present training materials and apply knowledge, skills and experience to the education of site personnel.
- Experience applying regulatory requirements, risk assessment, and incident learning to training content.
- Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
- Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping
- Specialized knowledge in a safety specialty (e.g., Personal Protective Equipment, lockout/tagout, fall protection, excavation, Craft Based Leadership)
- Knowledge of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of safety and health laws and regulations and applicable agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes.
