Project Overview:

ESH teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that support our ESH Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists, safety specialists, and industrial hygiene scientists. Collectively, they provide technical guidance and perform planning, risk assessment, inspections and monitoring, training, and data management.
Job Summary:
The ESH Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive ESH program on a major project by leading a team of ESH professionals to deliver technical services across the project. Key responsibilities encompass both technical and administrative aspects, including compliance activities, personnel management, and the implementation and maintenance of policies, plans, procedures, systems, and processes across all ESH disciplines. This role requires execution of both administrative and field tasks in alignment with established industry standards, internal procedures, and applicable regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position reports directly to the Project ESH Manager.
Work requires physical ability for field inspections, including walking on construction sites in extreme heat or humidity, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working at heights or on uneven surfaces, and entering confined spaces. Must be able to wear assigned PPE (e.g., harness, life vest, gloves, etc.). #LI-AE2
Major Responsibilities:
- Directly manage a multidisciplinary team of ESH professionals, assigning roles and responsibilities to ensure comprehensive coverage of environmental, safety, and health services across the project.
- Oversee the execution of Bechtel’s ESH Management System, ensuring all policies, procedures, and standards are applied consistently and effectively to achieve compliance and drive continuous improvement.
- Monitor, track, and report ESH performance metrics. Apply statistical analysis to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement. Recommend and implement corrective actions to address deficiencies.
- Guide the development and delivery of behavior-based safety initiatives and industrial hygiene programs. Ensure best practices are adopted and risks are proactively managed.
- Oversee incident investigations, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and timely implementation of corrective actions. Coordinate medical and emergency response activities, maintaining readiness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee engaging training programs tailored to diverse audiences, ensuring all personnel are equipped with the knowledge and skills to work safely and responsibly.
- Lead ESH recognition programs to reinforce positive behaviors and achievements. Continuously seek and implement improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazards.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A Master of Science degree (or equivalent) in environmental, occupational safety, health, or a science-related discipline from an accredited university or college and 4 or more years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in environmental, occupational safety, health, or science-related discipline from an accredited university or college and 6 or more years of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree (or equivalent) in environmental, occupational safety, health, or a science-related field and 10 or more years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to organize, supervise, and lead ESH teams in complex project environments.
- Strong skills in regulatory research, data analysis, and use of software systems for ESH management and reporting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Computer and analytical skills for presentations, data management, recordkeeping, and report preparation.
- Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
- Expertise in incident investigation, procedure development, and experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar frameworks.
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to design and deliver engaging ESH training programs for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management System standards and certified as an ISO 45001 internal auditor.
- Experience in sectors beyond construction (e.g., manufacturing, energy, technology) to bring best practices from diverse environments.
- Professional certification (e.g., ASP, OHST, CSP, CIH) or progress toward certification is highly desirable.
- Broad technical knowledge, science skills, and technical writing abilities.
