Project Overview 

This position is for an aviation project in Ireland. Bechtel will be working in an integrated team with our client to support the delivery of a Capital Investment Plan of circa €2bn within an operating airport environment. 


The ideal candidate would be a team player capable of adapting to an integrated team environment. A driven self-starter, confident, agile, articulate, and capable of leading change by example. Collaborative and flexible to meet all the demands of the client. 


Role Overview  

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing a group of projects from planning and design through to the successful completion and commissioning; delivering the projects safely to time, to budget, and to specification, ensuring the projects achieve all project goals and objectives in accordance with the client’s requirements. 


Main Responsibilities 

  • Oversee and monitor the delivery of the project around the schedule, interface, cost, variations, contract, and risk, liaising with the relevant team members and functions as required. 

  • Develop the Project Execution Plan, ensuring the project is aligned to and delivers in accordance with the client’s standards and methods. 

  • Engage with and manage the project relationship with stakeholders. 

  • Lead the coordination of the project ensuring interfaces are considered and addressed at all stages of the project lifecycle. 

  • Work with the technical teams in coordinating and managing design consultants and other external service providers. 

  • Organise design review meetings and take responsibility for communicating design acceptance and change. 

  • Maintain the overall project risk register.  

  • Identify opportunities to improve Project Management procedures and tools.  

  • Monitor and apply performance management techniques. 

  • Manage the change control process. 

  • Manage the flow of project information between the team and the client, through regular meetings and written communications. 


NEC Specific Activities 

  • Review and accept programme submissions. 

  • Lead and act in the spirit of mutual trust and co-operation. 

  • Communicate and issue documents as required by the ECC contract and perform any other duties as stated in the contract. 

  • Maintaining close contact with the Client in order to ensure the Project Manager’s actions reflect the client’s objectives for the project.  

  • Manage the compensation event process so that the Contractors are fairly compensated for any client-initiated change. 

  • Ensure the Contractor notifies compensation events in good time so that the client is not disadvantaged. 

  • Assess payment after each assessment interval. 


Basic & Preferred Experience 

  • Minimum 15 year’s experience in the Construction / Infrastructure sector including on relevant aviation projects. 

  • Understanding of operating in a live airport site. 

  • Experience in operating on-site, not just office-based. 

  • Tangible experience in documenting best practice construction project management policies and standards. 

  • Track record of delivering construction/asset delivery projects to time and within the allocated budget.  

  • Knowledge of operating as a client’s project manager. 

  • Experience in dealing with a range of stakeholders at all levels across an organisation influencing the improvement of processes and guidance to support project delivery. 



  • Managing a multidisciplinary team across multiple concurrent projects. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to govern and drive outcomes to ensure project outputs that meet the required standards. 

  • Knowledge of NEC and FIDIC suite of contracts. 

  • Knowledge of Engineering and Project Management Principles. 

  • Planning capability and ability to use Oracle Primavera 6 scheduling system. 

  • Report writing skills.


Basic & Preferred Qualifications 

  • University degree in either Project Management or an Engineering Discipline Preferred. 

  • Professional memberships - RICS, CIOB, APM, or equivalent. 

  • PRINCE2 or equivalent preferred.
