Project Overview 

This position is for an aviation prospect in Ireland. The project has not been awarded yet and offers will be extended post project award. Bechtel will be working in an integrated team with our client to support the delivery of a Capital Investment Plan of circa €2bn within an operating airport environment.

Role Overview 

The Architectural Technologist will be tasked with and is responsible for the detailed design of architectural projects. The successful candidate will ensure that all buildings and associated facilities are designed in accordance with codes of practice, building regulations and best international practice.


This will include preparing detailed architectural design solutions for various stakeholders, along with acting as an expert advisor on building regulation compliance (including BCAR) to both clients and colleagues.  


Main Responsibilities 

  • Review and assess project design requirements ensuring they they are practical and in line with the Client’s objectives, and ensuring compliance with the approved designs during the construction phases 

  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects through all RIBA stages, managing their interfaces, quality and competing interests 

  • Making sure detailed designs are conducted and completed in accordance with timelines, quality, and cost objectives as set out by the Client

  • Prepare design drawings and contract documents in accordance with the Irish Building Regulations and relevant and appropriate Irish / international standards

  • Prepare design drawings and specifications that respond appropriately to the Client requirements whilst ensuring compliance with planning, fire, DAC, BCAR and all other building and statutory requirements

  • Ensure that best practices are implemented in relation to ES&H, and promote a positive ES&H culture in design

  • Manage and oversee the design performance of the external 3rd party consultants, supporting them to ensure that the best value design outcome is achieved

  • Lead an appointed design team in the preparation and delivery of a design when required to


Basic & Preferred Experience 

  • 10+ years experience in design and architecture with 5+ years experience in large, complex infrastructure projects. 

  • Detailed knowledge of Irish building regulations (including Part L, Fire, DAC, BCAR) 

  • Experience in a similar role with a track record of designing and delivering architectural projects from inception, planning, tender, construction and completion. 

  • Experience providing detailed guidance on technically challenging designs. 



  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team 

  • Ability to prepare and deliver reports and presentations 

  • Ability to use AutoCAD, Revit, NBS Create Specification Writer, MS Office, Sketch-Up (or similar 3D drawing package) 



  • Third level qualification in Architectural Technology awarded by a recognized institution
