Superintendent - Piping

Role Overview

The candidate will be responsible for the supervision of subcontracted work activities (underground piping) initially and will evolve into supervision of self-perform, direct hire work for piping activities.  Responsiblities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and accoutability for the safety, accident prevention, and fire prevention programs on the project.
  • Mechanical installation of underground piping operations including fusion bonding, welding and hydrotesting
  • Mechanical installation of abovegound piping operations including supports, hangers and welding.
  • Determine manpower, tools, equipment and material requirements for the craft
  • Develop daily craft assignments to be performed and review work accomplished
  • Prepare short and long term schedules
  • Interface with other discipline superintendents, field engineers and subcontractors to ensure work is performed according to schedule and budget.
  • Supervise and direct craft in construction activities within the piping discipline
  • Develop craft loading and manpower forecasts
  • Monitor actual work performance compared to the project budget and schedule
  • Coordinate activities with other disciplines as instructed by Site Management
  • Perform personnel evaluations on craft and subcontractor personnel
  • Ensure the most current design documentation is being utilized to complete activities
  • Coordinate subcontractor labor supervision and craft distribution
  • Interface with Labor Relations for craft recruitment and training programs



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of five years relevant work experience, or seven years relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with construction surveying, hydrotesting, welding and piping installation such as Precast Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP), High Density Polyethene (HDPE), Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel and Alloy piping.
  • Work experience as a piping superintendent or assistant piping superintendent leading to an understanding of the technical knowledge described above.
  • Direct hire construction experience
  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
  • Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • An understanding of the application and requirements of Project Environmental, Safety & Health.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
