Project Overview:
The project includes fabrication and assembly of major new machines for a top tier mining company for their iron ore export terminal located in Western Australia. Bechtel Mining and Metals is seeking an Electrical Supervisor with proven experience in the Western Australian resources industry to be assigned to an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) based in Dalian, China.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will develop, administer, and possess responsibility for project electrical installation works and quality control program activities. You will perform inspections, monitor subcontractor activity, and administer training and surveillance. You will lead cross-functional activities to ensure that electrical installation works follow contract requirements, government regulations & standards, project specifications, and industry best practice.

Major Responsibilities:
- Reviews and understands contract requirements, client specifications and related standards.
- Provide guidance to the contractor on the contract requirements, client specifications and related standards for electrical installation.
- Assist the contractor prepare and review of installation plans, procedures, ITPs and check sheets.
- Review and provide input to the contractor’s schedule related to electrical installation works.
- Provide technical advice on electrical installation works.
- Implements quality control procedures related to electrical installation and establishes detailed schedules for onsite inspection activities.
- Quality assurance oversight of contractor activities to ensure the installation meets the contract requirements, standards and regulations.
- Monitors subcontractors’ and sub-suppliers’ workmanship, installation of material and equipment for quality control compliance.
- Witness of inspection and testing activities.
- Initiates nonconformance reports, assists with determination of corrective actions and monitors status through to closure of corrective action.
- Maintains quality control records in support of activities in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Evaluates contractor installation personnel on current work practices, and if necessary, support the contractor to improve their work practices and standards.
- Support continuous improvement of contractor installation processes.
- Develop and maintain strong and good contractor working relationships.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Australian Licensed Electrician (Western Australian preferred), qualified engineer may be considered with appropriate experience.
- Familiar with installation of electrical equipment on Western Australian Iron ore sites (Rio Tinto preferred).
- Experience with switchroom fabrication and assembly, familiarity with Building Code and structural aspects of switchroom fit out (cladding, flooring, walls, doors)
- Experience with installation of air conditioning, fire detection and fire suppression systems to Australian Standards.
- Experience with balanced machines is an advantage.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of AS3000 Electrical Installations (Wiring Rules), AS3007, Electrical Equipment in Mines and Quarries, AS2067 Substations and High Voltage Installations, AS3017 Verification Guidelines, WAER Western Australian Electrical Requirements, Western Australian Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations (part 5).
- Familiar with AS1670 series Fire Detection, Warning Control and Intercom Systems, AS1680 series Workplace Lighting, AS2293 series Emergency Escape Lighting, AS61439 series Low Voltage Switchgear, AS61508 Functional Safety, AS3008.1.1 Selection of cables, AS60529 IP code, AS61386 series Conduit Systems, National Construction Code (Building Code)
- Fluent reading and writing English. Chinese speaking would be an advantage but not mandatory.
- Good communication skills.
