Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead a team to develop and manage a Prime Contract Management Program, including development of the contract baseline, risk mitigation, and staffing plan, for complex projects from inception through completion. You will guide the Project Manager and project team members to ensure that sound prime contract management principles are applied throughout project execution.  #LI-MJ1 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Fosters cross-functional collaboration to integrate prime contract management with other key business areas, ensuring a cohesive approach to project execution and strategic alignment. 
  • Manages the Prime Contracts function for a project of high risk, fixed price contracts or projects of considerable technical and commercial complexity from inception through completion; provides support and guidance to the Project Manager. 
  • Works with the project management team to identify the prime contract baseline, opportunities, risks, and develops a risk mitigation plan; develops and communicates a Prime Contract Management Program for the project consistent with the practices and procedures set forth in the Prime Contracts Management Manual. 
  • Participates in project related meetings, works closely with Construction, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Controls, and reviews project financial data to ensure awareness of all project activities that may affect the prime contract, identifies opportunities for revenue enhancement, schedules relief and claim avoidance, takes appropriate actions to protect Bechtel’s interest and/or improve project performance, and ensures compliance with prime contract terms and conditions. 
  • Provides direct support to the Project Manager for the preparation and negotiation of changes to the baseline contract as well as the resolution of constructive contract changes with respect to additional compensation and time. 
  • Ensures adherence to contract insurance provisions and coordinates with the Risk Management Department on any occurrences covered by Customer or Bechtel provided insurance. 
  • Develops a program to identify and prepare claims as they develop and directs the efforts to negotiate and resolve claims in coordination with the Claims Group and Legal Department. 
  • If assigned to prime contracts functional management for a business or execution unit, supports Business Unit Manager of Supply Chain with all tasks as delegated to support formation and successful project prime contract management for multiple projects in execution, including: supporting prime contracts personnel deployed to projects; managing the Prime Contract-related tasks from central functional role for small-med value/small-med complexity projects where no prime contracts personnel is assigned; supervising dual-hatted contracts staff, with a combined Contracts and Procurement and Prime role, e.g. where additional expertise/oversight is required. 
  • May support Legal/Risk Management with privileged investigations, major claims exercises, etc. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related field, with 15+ years of experience.
  • Experience in complex contract negotiations and administration for engineering/construction projects, preferably in data centers, power, or technology infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-changing, high-stakes environment with ambiguity.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Law or Business.
  • Project and home office commercial experience with a large engineering or construction firm.
  • Experience in large-scale data center, power, or technology infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with AI/data center industry standards, power procurement, and regulatory frameworks.
