Field Leadership Trainer

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

The position will require someone with strong supervision and facilitation experience who can partner with internal and external parties to support the US_IR growth through Field Leadership development as outlined below.  This role will be supported by a team of home office Workforce Coordinators and/or deployed Field Leadership Development Specialists who will be focused at each of our jobsites executing the developed programs. The Field Leadership Development Lead will collaborate with other leads on the overall Field Leadership development strategy and future workforce planning in coordination with the Construction L&D Manager, Manager of Industrial Relations, Project Deployed IR Managers and OG&C management.


Areas of Responsibility:


  • Responsible for the development of programs that address the training needs of Foremen, General Foremen, and Senior General Foremen (F/GF/SrGF) on project.

  • Design and develop succession plans and programs for F/GF/SrGF in the field in an effort to create a pipeline, develop and retain individuals for future leadership within the Bechtel Construction Services (BCS) workforce.



  • Provide oversight to the Field Leadership Team in their day to day activities and assist in coordination of all initiatives.

  • Responsible for the strategic planning and management of all field leadership programs and initiatives.

  • Develop, oversee implementation, and review short & long-term program objectives, goals, and plans.

  • Interface with project management, senior management, corporate, and GBUs, concerning resources, status and required support of the field leadership program.

  • Responsible for the implementation and delivery of High Performance Crews on Bechtel Projects.



  • Oversee metrics reporting and project/program feedback.

  • Recruit, train and certify project Field Leadership Development Specialists.

  • Conducts train the trainer courses for High Performance Crews as needed per business requirements.

  • Establish effective procedures to audit, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of the High Performance Crews Development program.

  • Prepare, monitor, and control division budget for allocated funds in a responsible manner.

  • Identify, support and guide the development of team members within the Field Leadership Team.


Position Skills:

Need someone who has proven experience, preferably with exposure to Learning & Development of Construction Personnel. This position will be key to being a part of this company’s “transformation process” while working with senior leaders, functional management, site managers and the rest of the organization to build a robust Field Leadership presence in the construction industry.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Business related field or 4 years additional related experience.

  • 5+ years direct experience in workforce development or equivalent learning and development field.

  • Intermediate Office skills (Microsoft Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Must be organized, flexible, proactive and have strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Must have strong classroom facilitation skills.

  • Must be able to extract, compile, analyze and present data and information.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people in a professional manner and to contribute as a member of a team.

  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Must be willing to travel to field locations to conduct workshops approx. 25% of the time.

  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business related field.

  • 10+ years direct experience in a Learning & Development role with a mix of agency and corporate experience.

  • 5+ years of experience at an EPC company.

  • Previous experience developing team members.

  • Experience in training delivery.

  • 10-15 years in Construction Industry experience.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
