Network Virtualization Engineer

We are looking for a team member that will collaborate openly and has proficient oral and written communications skills.  As a member of our Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to be engaged in a wide variety of IT-related work.  This will include maintaining cloud-based voice and data telecommunications systems, leading troubleshooting efforts and researching and recommending creative methods and solutions for telecommunications, networking, and other systems engineering and systems integration related tasking.


In addition to your core responsibilities, you will have the opportunity for hands-on access across a variety of infrastructure segments simultaneously, including compute, networking, and storage.  This is not the typical trouble-ticket-based system administration position, but instead requires the orchestration of many different skill sets across the spectrum of IT solutions to effect significant and creative infrastructure related solutions.


This position is located in Columbia, MD with occasional travel to Frederick, MD.


Responsibilities of the Network Virtualization Engineer include:

  • Maintaining data, voice, video and wireless network hardware and systems that leverage virtualized infrastructure solutions
  • Applying knowledge of multiple aspects of telecommunications, internetworking, and data systems networking.
  • Performing data or voice network configurations and configuration changes of various voice or data equipment.
  • Provide system support services for Virtual Machines (VM's) and images using virtualization technologies
  • Design, integrate, configure, deploy, test, and maintain numerous types of network devices, interfaces and technologies.
  • Providing escalated Tier-2 and Tier-3 technical support on data, voice, or video networks.
  • Preparing data or voice network diagrams and drawings to document and assist in communicating current operational status of networks.
  • Design, integrate, configure, deploy, test, and maintain numerous types of network devices, interfaces and technologies.
  • Resolve complex network problems and operate network analyzers, WAN test equipment, and network simulators.
  • Draft technical requirements, configuration management, and planning documentation.
  • Develop and maintain installation, configuration, and operational procedures.
  • Provide support to users to help troubleshoot and resolve issues.


 Basic Qualifications:

  • You must possess an active TS SCI security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from an accredited university with six (6) years experience relevant to Information Technology OR a high school diploma and twelve (12) years work experience relevant to Information Technology in lieu of degree.
  • Salary and grade commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Systems Administration experience working with Windows, UNIX, Linux, virtualization, containers, orchestration, configuration management, and configuring/maintaining Active Directory and DNS.
  • Experience with Linux systems in the areas of system administration, package management, troubleshooting, and integration.
  • Experience with virtualization, including VMware applications.
  • Experience with server operations including Windows Server 2008 and 2016
  • Experience with IP subnetting, VLANs, and static routing.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCNA Collaboration (Voice) Certified.
  • Security+ Certified.
  • Experience with infrastructure scripting solutions such as Windows Batch scripting, Bash scripting, PowerShell and Python.
  • Experience with Cisco and Junos operating systems.
  • Experience with packet capture software such as Wireshark.
  • Experience with the security-hardening of network devices.
