Job Summary:
Based in the Gurgaon or Chennai office, this role is responsible for cultivating and maintaining strategic relationships with suppliers of electrical commodities—including transformers, substations, motors, VFDs, cables, and switchgear items. The Category Lead proactively expands the supplier base by conducting thorough pre-qualification of new vendors and supports the development of robust acquisition strategies tailored to project requirements. Staying attuned to market trends, challenges, and opportunities, the Category Lead regularly shares critical updates with project teams and senior management to inform decision-making. The role involves active participation in the formation and administration of purchase orders, ensuring clear communication of requirements and expectations with both suppliers and internal stakeholders. This ensures consistent performance and compliance with purchase order terms and conditions throughout the procurement lifecycle.

- Maintains working relationships with project Supply Chain personnel and project discipline personnel to perform assigned duties.
- Maintains working relationships with suppliers involved with the performance of assigned tasks.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for electrical commodities, ensuring best value for customers while considering the Project’s Approved Manufacturers List, financing requirements, and compliance with tariff and quota risks. Contribute to setting and achieving project-level goals.
- Proactively identify and qualify new suppliers based on business needs, maintain supplier pre-qualification documentation, and monitor market developments, opportunities, and challenges in electrical commodities. Keep project management and senior leadership informed of key trends and risks.
- Maintain and regularly update commodity dashboards and demand mapping for electrical commodities, including heat maps and tariff/quota tracking across major economies. Provide ongoing support to the Market Intelligence team by contributing detailed insights for their quarterly MI alerts, ensuring stakeholders are informed of the latest trends and developments in the electrical commodities sector for both corporate and project needs.
- Build and sustain relationships with key suppliers and their senior project personnel to ensure successful execution and performance of orders.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure compliance with purchase order terms and conditions.
- Compile and analyze data for critical items reports and other supplementary project reports as required.
Oversee supplier performance, utilizing supplier evaluation reports to drive efficient execution of current and future projects.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized university; technical training preferred. Post-graduate specialization in Supply Chain Management is a plus.
- Minimum 8 years of industry experience, including 2–3 years in purchasing, expediting, or manufacturing of electrical commodities, and at least 2–3 years as a supply chain category analyst.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong techno-commercial expertise in electrical commodities, including knowledge of manufacturing capabilities, product specifications, materials of construction, and production methods.
- Up-to-date understanding of industry advancements, supply chain challenges, and opportunities.
- Experience in forming, administering, and expediting purchase orders and rate contracts (short/long term). Contribute to the development of project purchasing procedures.
- Skilled in preparing and maintaining project bidder lists, ensuring comprehensive input from procurement and operational teams.
- Collaborate with Engineering to guide material requisition preparation and organize procurement-sponsored meetings.
- Proficiency in all phases of procurement, including supplier communication, prequalification, bid compilation, contract negotiation, and commitment administration. Monitor supplier performance and resolve claims/disputes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Participate in contract negotiations, following review and approval of negotiation plans.
- Initiate and support vertical integration with suppliers by establishing global enterprise agreements aligned with EPC project needs.
- Conduct supplier assessments and evaluations to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and reliability. Lead RFQ preparation, vendor negotiations, and purchase order issuance. Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions to secure optimal value for the company
