Project Overview:
Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been selected by WSA Co as its Delivery Partner and Project Manager (Definition) for the Western Sydney Airport, a $5.3 billion greenfield facility in Badgerys Creek, New South Wales. This will be a landmark project for both New South Wales and Australia, and is due for completion at the end of 2026.
Western Sydney Airport will provide much-needed additional aviation capacity to meet growing demand in the Sydney basin and improve access to flights for people in Western Sydney. One of Australia's most significant infrastructure projects in decades, the international and domestic airport will open in 2026, bringing social and economic prosperity to the Western Sydney region. Job Summary:
You will be a key individual supporting the Delivery Partner’s (DPs) role in providing project management services and deliverables. In performing this role, the Project Engineer will be familiar with the contract terms, scope, and requirements and will work as part of the broader DP package management team to fulfil the DP obligations. Applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering with a focus on buildings.
Major Responsibilities:
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
- Reviews key engineering drawings and calculations.
- Requires a broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria.
- Attend weekly progress meetings between Contractors, Subcontractors, DP, and the customer for the assigned works.
- Coordinate and manage the interfaces between the design work packages developed by 3rd party engineering consultants and/or design firms.
- Review project design and construction progress against approved schedules, evaluate changes and advise corrective action when required.
- Assist the Package Manager with the timely delivery of the design work packages developed by 3rd Party engineering consultants and/or design firms.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of engineering techniques, design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
- Experience in the delivery of building works covering either civil/structural/architectural works or MEP works.
- Knowledge of Aviation related industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria.
- A broad knowledge of the application of engineering to infrastructure constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
- Working knowledge of engineering planning and control methods.
- Advanced skill in oral and written communication. Direct interface with the customer is a key part of this role. Experience in leading meetings with multiple stakeholders and issuing formal correspondence is desired.
- Experience working with and managing contracts.
- Registered Professional Engineer (RPEng) or equivalent
