Project Overview:

Job Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join the Process Engineering department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T). The prime roles and responsibilities include: 

Assigned on projects to develop an area from conceptual phase to EPC phase. Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application, and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit. 

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.-MJ1 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with customers to understand requirements and develop the design basis and process flow schemes. 
  • Prepare and execute process engineering deliverables in alignment with approved procedures, practices, and standards. 
  • Coordinate, review, and contribute to designs, studies, reports, and proposals. 
  • Lead detailed design development with other engineering disciplines, managing workload to meet project schedules. 
  • Define engineering scope and establish work plans for complex projects through the EPC phase. 
  • Supervise and manage a team of process engineers, ensuring timely delivery of project documentation such as PFDs, UFDs, P&IDs, calculations, and equipment specifications within budget and schedule. 
  • Maintain the technical quality of all process deliverables for the project. 
  • Lead technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and regulators to achieve sound technical decisions. 
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges and value improvement opportunities throughout all project phases. 
  • Provide innovative solutions to multidisciplinary technical issues. 
  • Develop or review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs), Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), and Line Designation Tables (LDTs), clearly explaining flow configurations. 
  • Prepare and review technical lists, including equipment, PSV, and specialty item lists. 
  • Perform and check equipment sizing calculations for vessels, heat exchangers, and packaged equipment, as well as hydraulic calculations for pumps, compressors, valves, and line sizing. 
  • Organize and conduct PFD, P&ID, 3D model, and vendor print reviews, ensuring compliance with technical criteria. 
  • Mentor designers and drafters, providing on-the-job training to support professional development.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in chemical or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution and 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree. 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in process equipment design, construction, and commissioning, with a solid understanding of multidisciplinary project roles. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer status preferred. 
  • Supervisory experience on medium or large engineering projects. 
  • Familiarity with system requirements from federal, state, and local agencies (e.g., EPA, DOT, OSHA). 
  • Demonstrated success in executing process engineering for EPC projects. 
  • Strong grasp of technical theory, engineering principles, and their practical application in design execution. 
  • Knowledge of major regulations, industry codes, and standards (e.g., API, ASME) affecting design and quality. 
  • Proficiency in developing and reviewing process simulations and engineering diagrams (PFDs, UFDs, P&IDs). 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. 
  • Proven frontline leadership, commitment to continuous improvement, team building, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. 
  • Experience planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects within semiconductor, electric vehicle, battery, or data center EPC markets.
