Job Summary:

Provide design leadership and Life Safety Systems expertise for the Advanced Technology Facilities, Mission Critical, Electronics, and other High-Tech Infrastructure industries as assigned in the M&T global business unit. Senior LSS TGMS Technology Specialist will apply diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields making decisions regarding engineering complexities and methods. Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project. Represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions..#LI-MJ1

 

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts independent LSS/Toxic Gas Monitoring System (TGMS) work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of LSS engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit​ 
  • Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of telecommunication components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ 
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management​ 
  • Develops conceptual designs for LSS/TGMS engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements​ 
  • Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules​ 
  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data​ 
  • Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of LSS/TGMS aspects of the work​ 
  • Conducts or leads special studies of new LSS/TGMS engineering methods, materials and techniques​ 
  • Mentors LSS/TGMS engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development​ 
  • Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of systems, equipment, applications of design methods, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project design deliverables within the Life Safety Systems discipline to include Toxic Gas Monitoring Systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
  • Knowledge of developing Toxic Gas Monitoring Systems to include, Toxic Gas Monitoring Network Infrastructure along with single point and area detection requirements, as well as interfacing with other discipline systems as it relates to Life Safety Systems.
  • Familiar with the industry and regulatory codes and standards to include NFPA 72, NEC, NFPA 318, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, IBC, as well as design criteria pertinent to the engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge in development and application of battery and voltage drop calculations, cable tray and conduit fill calculations, device selection for hazards material, corrosive, and explosion classified areas. 
  • Managed work using Standard Application Programs and appropriate computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools.
