Position Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join the Electrical Designer department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T). The prime roles and responsibilities include:

Serves on assigned project to develop an area from conceptual phase to EPC phase. Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.  

 

Job Dimensions:

A. Supervision Received 

  • Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from an Area Project Engineer or a Supervisor.

B. Supervision Exercised 

  • Provides operational direction and technical guidance to subordinate designer personnel as directed.

C. Contacts 

  • Consults with suppliers, module yard, design and construction subcontractors, technical specialists, other disciplines/functions and client representatives as directed to provide and receive technical information and to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assigned activities and deliverables within an engineering or design discipline on the projects.
  • Prepares layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings.
  • Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project.
  • Provides technical guidance to subordinate designers and drafters as assigned.
  • Coordinates assigned design work with other project groups.
  • Mentors designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • Preparing or assisting with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
  • Monitoring and checking work for compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy.
  • Preparing design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
  • Coordinating or making jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
  • Reviewing or defining engineering scope changes, as required, for project management.
  • Endorsing or preparing reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use.
  • Maintaining up-to-date skills in Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) relevant to design work and ensures that maximum use is made thereof.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • AA/AS degree with 11 years of related design experience, or in lieu of degree, 15 years of related design experience.
  • Knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings for electrical systems and equipment on manufacturing or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience including architectural interface, drawing generation, view templates, design options, and phasing.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Broad knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment layout and required clearances.
  • Knowledge of electrical raceway design and layout.
  • Modeling of electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, etc. in a 3D model environment.
  • Knowledge of lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
  • Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline. Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline. Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
  • Prior experience on executing electrical works in EPC projects.
  • General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials and applications of computers 2-D and 3-D computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) to engineering problems.
  • Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters who share in the design effort.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced experience in the use of Microstation and 3D modeling.
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
  • Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and offices.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures.
  • Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
