Job Summary:
Bechtel is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Process Engineer to join its Manufacturing and Technology Global Business Unit (M&T GBU) Engineering Team. In this role, you will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team supporting the master planning and permitting of a large-scale industrial development that includes gas turbine power generation and multiple high-demand tenants such as AI Data Centers and Giga-Factories. The project is currently in the conceptual phase, and your expertise will help shape the technical foundation for future design and execution.
As the project progresses, you will transition into design and development activities for either the central power generation facility or one of the tenant utility systems. You will be responsible for process engineering leadership, including the development of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, and coordination with other disciplines.
You will also serve as a technical interface with clients, supporting permitting documentation, resolving complex engineering challenges, and ensuring alignment with project requirements. Your role will evolve into a group supervisor position, where you will manage technical scope, schedule, and cost for the process discipline.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership #LI-MJ
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead process engineering tasks for gas turbine power generation and/or balance of plant systems from conceptual design through startup and turnover.
- Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and control philosophies for power generation and utility systems.
- Oversee and specify process utility systems including steam, water, fuel gas, nitrogen, plant air, and chemical dosing.
- Ensure designs meet industry codes and standards (ASME, API, NFPA, ISO, IEC, EPA, OSHA).
- Conduct risk assessments, safety/environmental reviews, and support permitting documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and interface with clients, vendors, and construction teams for technical alignment and project execution.
- Support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of power generation and utility systems.
- Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage technical scope, schedule, and cost for process engineering deliverables.
- Lead design reviews and client presentations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in industrial process engineering, with a focus on power generation or large-scale utility systems.
- Experience with large-scale industrial projects, including greenfield developments and retrofit designs.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PE License, Six Sigma, PMP) are a plus.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Deep knowledge of gas turbine thermodynamics, combustion systems, HRSG integration, and grid interconnection.
- Expertise in utility systems: steam, condensate, cooling water, potable water, demineralized water, fuel gas, nitrogen, plant/instrument air, chemical dosing, and wastewater.
- Proficiency in process simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS, Thermoflex, AFT Fathom) and engineering design software.
- Strong grasp of process engineering principles and practices relevant to power generation and utility systems.
- Demonstrated leadership in large EPC projects and multidisciplinary team coordination.
- Strong communication skills for technical presentations and stakeholder engagement.
- Comprehensive understanding of chemical safety, HAZOP, risk assessments, hazardous material handling, and environmental permitting/compliance.
- Ability to manage scope, schedule, and cost for process engineering deliverables.
- Leadership potential to transition into a group supervisor role.
