Job Summary:

The ES&H Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive ES&H program on major projects or providing support to multiple projects within a business unit. Key responsibilities encompass both technical and administrative aspects, including compliance activities, personnel management, and the development and maintenance of policies, plans, procedures, systems, and processes across all ES&H disciplines. This role requires execution of both administrative and field tasks in alignment with established industry standards, internal procedures, and applicable regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position reports directly to the Project ES&H Manager or the GBU ES&H Manager.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-AM3

Major Responsibilities:

  • Applies Bechtel's ES&H Management System and standards (core processes) to achieve, maintain, and continually improve program execution and compliance with ES&H requirements.
  • Coordinates a wide variety of ES&H disciplines to facilitate implementation of the project’s ESH program, including aiding compliance with Bechtel's ES&H standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments
  • Assists in the implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of project employees and protection of the environment and communities 
  • Tracks and reports ES&H performance and compliance throughout the contract duration. 
  • Ensures maintenance of ES&H databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions 
  • Performs statistical analysis of ES&H data to identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement and makes recommendations accordingly 
  • Identifies and supports implementation of unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H personnel 
  • Offers guidance and support to designated ES&H teams, overseeing services such as incident investigations, training initiatives, Craft-Based Leadership (CBL) teams, medical and emergency response, and Industrial Hygiene, while maintaining coordination with project or Global Business Unit leadership. 
  • Leads coordination of ES&H recognition programs 
  • Recommends and implements improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A Master of Science degree (or equivalent) in environmental, occupational safety, health, or a science-related discipline from an accredited university or college and 4 or more years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in environmental, occupational safety, health, or science-related discipline from an accredited university or college and 6 or more years of relevant experience; or an Associate's degree (or equivalent) in environmental, occupational safety, health, or a science-related field and 10 or more years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to research and comprehend regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer and analytical skills for presentations, data management, recordkeeping, and report preparation.
  • Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
  • Ability to leverage data for predictive safety analytics and trend identification.

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to design and deliver engaging ES&H training programs for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management System standards and certified as an ISO 45001 internal auditor.
  • Expertise in conducting incident investigations and developing procedures.
  • Experience in sectors beyond construction (e.g., manufacturing, energy, technology) to bring best practices from diverse environments.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar frameworks for process improvement.
