Project Overview:
The ML2 Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements from a project’s electrical engineering aspect are met. #LI-SNH
Major Responsibilities:
Level 1
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment with limited oversight.
- Performs electrical engineering design, including the development of higher tier documentation, as well as schematics, connection diagrams, load lists, etc.
- Leads multi-disciplinary design teams on projects of moderate complexity.
- Develops material requisitions and specifications for non-standard cable assemblies and provide engineering support to cable manufacture for project requirements and quantities.
- Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for the preparation of specifications, material requisitions, and system descriptions related to design tasks.
- Provides guidance on engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria to expand the skillsets of peers.
- Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
- Ensures electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Level 2
- When delegated, provides guidance to other electrical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects.
- Completes electrical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
- Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Level 1
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Level 2
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Knowledge of NASA and MIL standards.
- Experience in connectorized cable design and fabrication.
- Experience in selecting electrical and physical components for control panel design.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts.
- Strong understanding of engineering discipline drawings and system calculations such as short circuit and load-flow.
- Ability to size equipment and perform cable sizing calculations.
- Strong knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
- Experience with ETAP and other industry wide electrical system design tools, such as CAD 2D, and electronic Cable Management System.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, and work well with others and within a team.
- Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines.
- Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
- Excellent oral & written communications skills.
