Project Overview:
Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 Project which is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead a team and supervise superintendents and/or craft professionals on a project. You will direct craft professional activities and work schedules, and coordinate subcontract work activities and team development. Your oversight will ensure craft professionals have the tools required to be productive, comply with project policies, procedures, and job site work rules and procedures, and perform within specifications, schedules and budgets. #LI-CL1
Major Responsibilities:
Leadership / Supervision (Discipline Supervision up to 50 craft)
- Supervises and/or directs craft activities as assigned.
- Schedules work to be performed, and reviews work accomplished by each craft.
- Monitors and directs subcontractor activities, through coordination and instruction of subcontractors' management staff within the area of responsibility.
Planning / Productivity
- Determines workforce requirements.
- Coordinates established area operational plans.
- Reviews and approves where necessary, subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements.
- Leads the construction operations impact on external interfaces to ensure they coincide with the overall established schedules.
Tools, Materials & Equipment
- Monitors tool and equipment usage on the site.
- Oversees the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.
Safety & Quality
- Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
- Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.
- Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements.
- Implements and enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management.
Technical
- Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
- Oversees engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Coordinates with design on constructability issues.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience at a single or multi-discipline construction or engineering operation.
- Experience with supervisory functions relating to Multiple Discipline field activities.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
- Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
- Experience working with, supervising, and administering subcontractors and/or Direct Hire workforce.
- Experience working with, supervising USA Building Trades Unions.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy.
- Knowledge of construction project Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).
- Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, Supervisors ES&H Manual, Project Safety Management Plan, and Bechtel Core Processes.
- Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain any security clearances required for this position.
- Recent Bechtel experience in various disciplines as a Superintendent or Lead Field Superintendent at a large EPC project preferred.
- Working knowledge of the Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs) and the related Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) utilized by Construction preferred.
- Knowledge of the use of subcontracts, and the contractor and subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
