Project Overview

The ML2 Project scope is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Florida, is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.

 

This Lead Workface Planner position will be assigned to Bechtel KSC Jobsite on a long-term assignment to support Advance Work Packaging before and during the Construction Phase.

 

Position Summary

Working within the Construction function and reporting to the Workface Planning Manager (WFPM), the Lead Workface Planner (WFP) is responsible for supporting and providing input to the project’s Workface Planning (WFP) Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) program. Primary responsibilities include planning execution of field work, providing detailed construction input during engineering and procurement, scoping and managing work packages, constraint removal, supporting turnover to startup and constant coordination across the project’s EPC functions to ensure alignment to the field execution strategy.

 

 Responsibilities 

  • Workface Planning.
  • Collaborate with Field Engineering and Supervision to develop and update the Construction Execution Strategy.
  • Maintain the Level 4 and 5 Construction Schedules.
  • Input to the 90-day and 3-week lookahead by Installation Work Package (IWP).
  • 4D planning and modeling the construction installation sequence.
  • Ensure constraint-free IWPs are made available to the field.
  • Identify constraints associated with work packages and update constraint list.
  • Tracking readiness and providing visibility to constraints at pre-construction intervals of 150-days, 90-days, and 3-weeks as well as driving removal of constraints via cross-functional communication and coordination.
  • Along with Field Engineering, prepare detailed Installation Work Package (IWPs) as per the project guidelines and procedures, to include, compiling layout drawings, standard installation drawings, schematics, vendor drawings, installation details, model snapshots, vendor drawings, inspection test records, or any other documents or Engineering deliverables associated with the IWP scope of work.
  • Relay Construction priorities upstream to prioritize Engineering and Procurement deliverables and monitor design and material downstream impacts to Construction to replan as necessary.
  • Track and drive the development and closure of IWP documentation to support system turnovers.
  • Support the development and maintenance of metrics and dashboards for monitoring the performance of the Workface Planning program and its effectiveness toward improving construction productivity.
  • Assist in training the work package planning staff, as well as AWP training for all project staff.
  • Work with Construction BSAPs to advance the company’s data-centric delivery vision.
  • Be a strong advocate of AWP Program implementation on ML2.

 

Qualifications & Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with 9+ years of experience, or in lieu of, degree 15+ years of experience.
  • Working experience at a jobsite as Field Engineer or Construction Engineer.
  • Experience in the preparation of Construction work packages.
  • Proficient in reading drawings, interpret design, construction schedule, specifications, and industry standards and codes.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Consistent, reliable, and detail oriented.
  • Flexible and willing to support all disciplines on all deliverables.
  • Ability to help teams define strategic direction for the purpose of developing practical action plans. 
  • Ability to think ‘outside the box’ to help resolve challenges and roadblocks as they arise.

 

 Additional Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Bechtel construction practices, process improvement methodologies, and innovative trends within the construction industry. Previous experience in Engineering, Construction, or Project Controls is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of developing unit rate and performance factors.
  • Previous experience in the development and maintenance of project metrics and dashboards.
  • Strong knowledge of BSAPs and standard programs used on Bechtel EPC projects such as TeamWorks, InfoWorks, Digital Supply Chain, Synchro 4D, EQMS, Toolhound, xFighters, Bookbuilder, ModelBuilder, etc.
