Project Overview
The ML2 Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.
This project is currently an active project within the NS&E Global Business Unit within Bechtel.
Position Summary
This position is for a Deputy Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor, who will assist in leading the Electrical team to prepare designs associated with the ML2 project. This role is responsible for the design delivery and supporting team management for the Bechtel work products and designs, as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work with internal and external stakeholders. This role will be based out of the KSC office, and coordinate electrical scope between remote workers and the project office. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
Responsibilities
This role applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering. Makes decisions independently concerning problems within the discipline on the project. Represents the discipline on the project and with the client to resolve technical questions and as required to coordinate work. The successful candidate will support engineering design development engineering by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
This position scope will be responsible for supervising engineers and helping to execute assignments concerned with specialized unique engineering requirements in a global business unit. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope, and may involve development of novel concepts, approaches, and solutions.
This role's responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Development of formal calculations and drawings.
- Development of subcontractor scopes of work for execution of construction work implementing design documents.
- Review vendor information from subcontractors.
- Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
- Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
- Manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company procedures, contract, and industry codes and standards.
- Demonstrate ownership of assigned actions to self and group and shows initiative in problem solving.
- Build an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities. Provide leadership and mentoring to team members. Create meaningful goals working with team and ensure goals are met.
- Interface with NASA for technical issue studies, resolutions, and recommendations.
- Accountable for error-free deliverables.
- Develop design configuration packages for configuration control and change management.
- Develop equipment and material specifications.
- Develop procurement documentation.
- Performs other related work as assigned by Engineering Group Supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
- BS degree in Electrical engineering with 13 years of related engineering experience within the Electrical discipline.
- Must be a United States citizen or be a permanent resident (green card holder) of the United States.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Minimum Qualifications
- PE Registration.
- Experience facilitating multi-discipline meetings to resolve technical issues.
- Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
- Extensive knowledge and application of Codes and Standards.
- Extensive knowledge of Engineering work processes, procedures, specifications.
- Previous hands-on or extensive working knowledge of industry wide design tools and software.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS degree in Electrical in engineering with 11 years of related engineering experience within the Electrical discipline.
- Previous NASA/Kennedy Space Center experience.
- Experience with design, construction and start-up phases of projects.
- Supervisory experience on large projects.
- Previous Bechtel and/or Government project experience.
