Project Overview:

Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 Project which is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will assist the project construction superintendent with plan development, training, environmental safety & health (ES&H), quality review, and technical support and participate in the direction of craft professional activities. Your work will help ensure construction operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely. #LI-CL1

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Considered an Assistant Superintendent- directs craft professional activities under supervision of superintendent and responsible for plan development, training, ES&H, and quality. 
  • Coordinates with multiple discipline superintendents on equipment layout, support layout, dimensional locations.

Planning / Productivity 

  • Participates in the preparation of construction drawings and sketches. 
  • Participates in the development of planning construction methods and procedures. 
  • Develops projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements. 
  • Executes work requests out of a database.
  • Participates in 3 Week Look Ahead schedules.

Tools, Materials & Equipment 

  • Monitors tool and equipment usage on the site. 
  • Prepares Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive. 

Safety / Quality 

  • Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements. 
  • Implements and enforces policies, procedures, and related work rules as established by field construction management. 

Technical 

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents. 
  • Participates in the coordination of engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Foremen, and Craft Professionals. 
  • Be familiar with, and coordinate systems, elevations, and a basic understanding of survey.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience at a single or multi-discipline construction or engineering operation.
  • Experience with supervisory functions relating to piping field activities.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Experience working with, supervising, and administering subcontractors and/or Direct Hire workforce.
  • Experience working with, supervising USA Building Trades Unions.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy.
  • Knowledge of construction project Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).
  • Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan, and the Bechtel Core Processes.
  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any security clearances required for this position.
  • Recent Bechtel experience as a Piping Superintendent or Piping Superintendent at a large EPC Project (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of the Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs) and the related Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) utilized by Construction (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts and the contractor and subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
