Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.

Job Summary:

The Switchyard Coordinator - Project Engineer will be a solid leader and collaborator who will oversee the execution of 230kV GIS substation by subcontractor. In this role, you will utilize individual technical knowledge to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate with the subcontractor for the substation execution scope. You will participate in coordination meetings, project planning, monitoring the schedule, and delivery of critical equipment to ensure that the vendor is on track to meet the project schedule. Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget.

In this role, you will serve as a liaison for Bechtel and the subcontractor’s facility. You will have oversight of all aspects of the scope being executed by the subcontractor and coordinate with the Bechtel team to ensure that any input needed by subcontractor are being provided in a timely manner. You will participate in technical reviews at the factory for critical deliverables.

This role is an assignment initially based in Houston at the Bechtel office and subcontractor's facility. Subsequently, the assignment will involve moving to the project jobsite in Cheyanne, Wyoming for a duration of 24months (Q3 2026 until Q3 2028). #LI-JL1 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage schedule and key stakeholders including Bechtel India engineering, Earthwork/ foundations (Clark Bros), Buildings (Moore Industries), GIS (Hitachi) and Dashiell Construction (DACON).
  • Coordination with construction and supply chain.
  • Attended meetings on daily basis with Dashiell and Bechtel project team to ensure smooth progress of design activities. Identify critical issues that could impact progress and bring to the attention of the stakeholders. Provide recommendations to mitigate such issues.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) in Electrical HV Power Systems or Civil/Structural Engineering or closely related field and 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must have at least 10 years of prior experience as an Engineering Group Supervisor or a Project Engineer on complex EPC Power projects.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

For Electrical Engineering Background

  • Ability to select and specify electrical equipment for LV and MV systems such as power panels, switchgear, MCCs and transformers.
  • Prior experience with managing HV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) packages as Responsible Engineer or Project Engineer.
  • Working knowledge of electrical system design codes and standards including IEEE, IEC and NFPA 70.
  • Prior experience with attending Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of switchgear, protective relays, SCADA and substations is preferred.

For Civil / Structural Engineering Background

  • Ability to design and install large building foundations.
  • Ability to design and manage large steel frame industrial buildings.
  • Working knowledge of MEP systems (HVAC, Lighting, Fire protection) and building Cranes.
  • Experience in managing 3D models, clash checking, constructability reviews.
