Project Overview:
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.
The candidate will act as the Lead Field Engineer - Welding on the upcoming project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston, VA, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project award.
Job Summary:
Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline for a particular area of the project. Provides engineering assistance to superintendents, directs assigned personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality and assures results meet design requirements. Functions as a lead discipline engineer, coordinating related discipline activities and interfacing with other areas/disciplines on the jobsite. #LI-TH1
Major Responsibilities:
Lead Field Welding engineer duties as follows:
- Demonstrates a personal commitment to safety
- Implement and maintain Bechtel Field Welding program.
- Provide specialized welding engineering support for construction to ensure construciton meets all code and Bechtel procedures.
- Provide technical expertise for ASME, API, and AWS or other code designed and fabricated items.
- Responsible to manage pre- and post-weld heat treatment program whether self- performed by Bechtel or subcontractors.
- Responsible to manage rod room and rod room attendent to ensure all weld filler materials are controled and meet Bechtel and Code requirements.
- Responsible to manage the NDE subcontract to include scheduling and coordinate with construction and subcontract for the best possible shooting schedule at the least cost and least impact to construction.
- Responsible to manage and monitor welder qualificaiton test lab to insure high quality welders are being prperly tested and hired.
- Work with Supervisors, Foreman, and craft so to maintain weld documents and ensure the credibility/accountability of the Welding Program.
- Responsible to manage issue and maintain welder qualifications and welder stamps. - Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules
- Provides leadership and takes personal accountability for site safety, environmental and health program
- Participate in the Project Chromium Material Assessments, and Hex Chrome mitigation activities
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
- Minimum of 10 to 12 years industry experience in welding and welding supervision with a minimum 3 years Bechtel experience. Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field welding activities
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Working knowledge of current industry quality construction procedures and standards.
- Must be able to climb ladders and be able to handle the wearing of protective clothing from contamination.
