Project Overview:
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas-fired power generation facilities in the U.S. Our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year. The candidate will act as the HRSG Superintendent on the CCGT Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston-VA; as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to the project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project awards.
Job Summary:
The Mechanical Field Superintendent provides on-site leadership for mechanical construction activities primarily focused on the project’s Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), ensuring all work is executed safely, meets technical requirements, and aligns with project schedule and budget objectives. This role directs craft labor and subcontractors, oversees daily field operations, and drives workforce planning, progress reporting, and cost/schedule performance. Working closely with engineering, construction management, and project controls, the Field Superintendent resolves constructability issues, supports the development of work scopes, and ensures effective use of automation tools and project procedures. The position plays a central role in maintaining quality, enforcing use of current design documents, and ensuring that tools, materials, and equipment are available to support efficient execution. #LI-SP1
Major Responsibilities:
- Leadership/Supervision
- Lead and direct craft labor and subcontractor teams, ensuring safe and efficient execution of daily work.
- Oversee subcontractor performance and coordination, ensuring alignment with project expectations.
- Oversees, coordinates and reports field activities of construction subcontracts
- Engage proactively in team development through CPM processes, competency assessments, and continuous feedback.
- Conducts foreman/subcontractor meetings to review/assist in daily, weekly, and monthly planning.
- Develops and monitors 3 Week Look Ahead Schedule for assigned work scope.
- Verifies that all material, tools and other resources needed to support the 3 Week Look Ahead Schedule are available and on site.
- Conducts daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and daily workplan at the beginning of shift.
- Prepares reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecast.
- Participates in weekly cost and schedule reviews with senior management.
- Monitors BSAP / Automation tools utilized within their area.
- Enforces the daily usage, including setting expectations from direct reports as stipulated in the Roles and Responsibilities section of BSAP / Automation Functionality Guides.
- Assigns/ re-assigns Installation Work Packages to the RS BSAP/Automation tools.
- Reviews subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience or 8+ years’ experience as a Superintendent / Construction Manager or equivalent on a similar project preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Previous experience delivering a combined cycle power plant as Field Superintendent.
- Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
- Oversees engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Coordinates with Design on constructability issues.
- Oversees the preparation of testing processes and required test equipment.
- Inspects installed components for technical acceptance.
- Oversees the development of Commodity Installation means and methods.
- Implements understanding of industry / International Codes & Standards applicable to work scope.
- Utilizes and leverages applicable automation software and processes as applicable.
- A thorough knowledge of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) erection.
- A thorough knowledge of Section 1 and B31.1 codes.
- Competent in supervising heavy lift activities.
- A thorough knowledge of welding, including the latest technologies and NDE methods
- A strong background in union craft management and understanding of the project labor agreement.
