Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. Our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.

 
The candidate will act as the Piping Field Engineer on the Underground commodities on a power Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston-VA; as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field. This position is contingent upon project awards.

Job Summary:

The Construction Piping Field Engineer is responsible for activities of the piping field engineering relating to construction engineering within the piping discipline. Duties include interpreting piping design drawings and specifications, piping installation/fabrication including pipe hangers and inline piping components, field verification of materials, and technical support. #LI-KL1

Major Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Packaging:
•Prepares construction drawings/sketches
•Interfaces in planning construction methods/procedures
•Assists in the preparations of projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements
•Prepares field change documents and requests for information
•Supports with verification of change notices and amendments
•Assembles cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bill of materials
•Assists in planning construction execution, including installation sequence and resource loading
•Designs temporary construction facilities with the support of engineering and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans
•Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule

Material Management:
•Initiates requisitions for field purchases
•Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment
•Inspects material upon receipt at site and material issued for preservation and maintenance
•Issues material to craft professionals
•Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for construction using procurement systems or other computer database programs 
•Reviews subcontractor submittals and requests for information and coordinates responses
•Reviews vendor material and/or equipment submittals to ensure conformance to engineering requirements
•Coordinates contractor material deliveries, storage of materials, expediting and engineering reports 

Quantities:
•Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required
•Validates installation of materials through inspection / documentation
• Tracks progress of assigned subcontracts and provides input to project schedules and cost reports

Safety/Quality Control:
•Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area
•Ensures housekeeping and cleanliness of the project
•Reviews project design and engineering documents, model, and model data to ensure their completeness and readiness for safe construction
•Verifies material quality, workmanship, and assures results meet quality requirements based on codes, specifications, and design drawings
•Ensures work methods planned and executed safely
•Prepares and performs inspections, tests plans and test procedures, and prepares inspection reports for assigned discipline/scope
•Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and technical documents
•Monitors equipment delivery and construction materials and assures that specified warehousing and storage exists to ensure adequate environmental protection
•Ensures compliance with contract documents
•Reviews subcontractor submittals and requests for information and coordinates responses
•Prepares/closes non-conformance reports

Technical:
•Interfaces with construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and craft professionals, in interpreting engineering design, vendor, and technical documents
•Coordinates engineering solutions with subcontractors, superintendents, and foremen
•Coordinates with design on constructability issues
•Conducts tests on equipment
•Drafts contract change notices and amendments, extra work orders, and back charge notices as assigned
•Inspects and records installed components for technical acceptance
•Facilitates development of commodity installation means and methods
•Understands and ensures compliance with Industry/International Codes & Standards
•Utilizes and leverages applicable automation software/processes

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams
  • Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft
  • Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules 
  • Experience on combined cycle facilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of modularization of piping and pipe racks, above ground & below ground piping systems and line testing preferred
