Project Overview:
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.
The candidate will act as the Civil Field Engineer on the upcoming project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston, VA, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project award.
Job Summary:
The Civil Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance, direction, and support to Bechtel and subcontractor field supervision for construction and installation activities for all disciplines associated with specified area equipment and materials. You will be supporting the installation of civil commodities on project with a focus on the undergrounds.#oLI-KL1
Major Responsibilities:
Work Planning & Packaging
- Coordinates the preparation of construction drawings, sketches, projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.
- Contributes to planning construction methods and procedures preparing in preparation of field change documents and requests for information.
- May prepare material and installation portions of subcontract bid packages.
- Prepares installation work packages, as assigned.
- Prepares daily progress reports, periodic photographic progress reports and keeps supervisors informed on progress of assigned tasks.
- Contributes to the preparation of cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bill of materials to ensure their completeness.
- Supports with verification of change notices and amendments.
- Creates and submits FCDs as required to provide current as built documentation.
- Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
- Assists in the designing of temporary construction facilities with the support of engineering and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.
Material Management
- Initiates requisition for field purchases.
- Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
- Inspects material upon receipt at site and material issued for preservation and maintenance.
- Issues material to craft professionals.
- Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for construction using procurement systems or other computer database programs as required.
- Reviews subcontractor submittals and requests for information and coordinates responses.
- Reviews vendor material and/or equipment submittals to ensure conformance to engineering requirements, as assigned.
- Coordinates contractor material deliveries, storage of materials, expediting and engineering reports related to the schedule. (CM scope)
Quantities
- Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
- Validates installation of materials through inspection / documentation
- Tracks progress of assigned subcontracts and provides input to project schedules and cost reports.
Safety/Quality:
- Ensures Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
- Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements.
- Enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management.
Technical:
- Supports Construction Field Engineers, Supervision, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
- Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Supervision, Foremen and Craft Professionals.
- Coordinates with Design on constructability issues.
- Prepares testing processes and required test equipment.
- Inspects installed components for technical acceptance.
- Assists in development of Commodity Installation means and methods.
- Utilizes and leverages applicable automation software and processes as applicable.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant work experience, or 5-6 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience on combined cycle facilities is preferred.
- Knowledge of underground drainage systems, concrete operations, structural steel, rebar fabrication & shop drawings experience preferred.
- Expereince in the installation of underground commodities.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards such as ACI, ASTM, AISC etc.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
- Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
- Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
- Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
- Must have work authorization within the United States of America.
