Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team has signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. Our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery in 2026.

The candidate will act as the EPC Automation Lead on the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston-VA to support planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field, when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to the project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project award.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Project Innovation and Information Manager (PIIM), the EPC Automation lead role is responsible for the implementation, configuration and support of jobsite digital/automation applications. The successful candidate can expect to deploy a broad range of automation, innovation and AI solutions.#LI-KL1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supports deployment and management of Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) and related workflows in line with Bechtel standard work processes.
  • Assists the PIIM in coordinating with the Project Field Engineer, project IS&T Lead, and other automation leads (procurement and project controls, commissioning, etc.), as well as Bechtel functional leads, to support AWP and audit data exchanges to and from construction applications and ensure they are correctly configured to support construction work activities.
  • Reviews any application deviations raised by the project team, evaluates their impact on other applications, data integration, and work processes, and works with the functional PIIM and Construction Automation teams for verification and approval of deviations.
  • Reviews and reports on interfaces between project controls and construction applications to provide data consistency, completeness, and accuracy, including developing performance curves, metrics, trackers, and user feedback to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Responds to customer needs, questions, and concerns and expedites actions in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.
  • Participates in the rollout of new technologies, services, and security remediations by working with the GBU Innovation Manager, AI Program Manager, and BEO.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering execution plans and required upskilling associated with various physical and digital solutions.
  • Trains and monitors contractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with automation and reporting requirements.
  • Champions innovation, robotics, and AI across the project by establishing a culture where ideas and improvement opportunities are raised, considered, and implemented.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science with 8+ years of experience, or 12-14 years of relevant work experience in delivering large complex projects, including 5+ years of experience in implementing and integrating automation technologies on construction projects

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program.
  • Must have a strong drive toward Safety, both on and off the job, and a commitment to seeing everyone go home each day as well and healthy as they came to work that day.
  • Knowledge of EPC automation applications and associated work processes, such as installed quantities tracking and reporting, work packaging, cable reel administration, permanent plant equipment maintenance, technical correspondence, etc.
  • Knowledge of other functional work processes to a level which allows clear articulation of Construction requirements to the other functions
  • Ability to build productive and collaborative working relationships with local teams and global peers
  • Experience customizing the Bechtel Standard Applications such as TeamWorks, SetRoute, WITS, BookBuilder, ModelBuilder, xFighters, Construction Unifier, eTrack, Smart® Completions, BPS, Synchro 4D, and Navisworks to specific project requirements.
  • Experience integrating and extracting data from automation tools for use by project stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of change management and configuration control processes.
