Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S.

The Project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress with early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.

The candidate will act as the Area Superintendent for the Combined Cycle portion on the upcoming Project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston or Cheyenne, Wyoming, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field. This position is contingent upon project awards.

Job Summary:

The Area Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing craft operations within the combined cycle area. Will supervise and direct Craft activities, subordinate superintendents and others, as assigned. Will ensure assigned construction operations and subcontractors performance is following specifications and within schedules and budget. Will perform general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions. #LI-SP1

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership / Supervision

  • Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned. (Direct Hire) 
  • Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by each craft. (Direct Hire) 

Planning / Productivity 

  • Determines workforce requirements.  
  • Coordinates established area operational plans.  

Tools, Materials & Equipment 

  • Oversees tool and equipment usage on the site.   
  • Manages the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the craft professionals have the tools they require to be productive.  

Safety & Quality 

  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.  
  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.   

Technical 

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents 
  • Manages engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and  Craft Professionals. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or other relevant technical disciplines from an accredited university (or international equivalent), plus a minimum of 10+ years of relevant work experience; or 14+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in field supervision of direct hire union workers.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Takes actions necessary to meet project budget and schedule requirements.
  • Experience in Combined Cycle power projects will be given priority.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction engineering practices related to all disciplines.
  • Coordinates the Construction Completion Walkdowns and supervises the close out of all punch list items.
  • Assists the Area Manager with client interface and relations.
  • Reviews equipment rentals and coordinates shared use of the equipment between the trades and is responsible for the equipment budget.
  • Establishes the tool trailer list at the onset of the project.
  • Maintain, promote and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
  • Ensures competent and practical adherence to the Bechtel standards and lessons learned.
  • Administers the execution of work packages and equipment installation.
  • Identifies potential back charges and out-of-scope issues and reports to management.  Supports commercial recovery process.
  • Ensures all quality expectations are being met by holding supervisors and craft accountable.
  • Able to work extended work schedules as required to support the project execution plans and schedules.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
