Project Overview:
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.
The candidate will act as the Area Field Engineer on the upcoming project in the Combined Cyle portion of the project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston, VA, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project award.
Job Summary:
The Area Field Engineer (CCGT) is responsible for the organization and direction of multi-discipline field engineering personnel and activities relating to construction engineering, subcontracts, and engineering liaison with the design functional group. You will oversee all field engineering activities on the Combined Cycle area of the project with support from the Project Field Engineer.#LI-KL1
Major Responsibilities:
- Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
- Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within multiple engineering disciplines.
- Coordinates with design on constructability issues.
- Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
- Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
- Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
- Approves and/or delegates the approval on behalf of the PFE for all Field Material Requisitions pertaining to permanent plant.
- Possesses responsibility for coordinating between Construction and Startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the Startup Specialists as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE.
- Reviews and approves inspection test plans,
- Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
- Coordinate and collaborates with superintendents ensuring the field engineering team is supporting the project superintendents.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 10-13 years of relevant work experience, or 14-17 years of relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
- Previous experience delivering a combined cycle power plant or process plant, and leading teams of Field Engineers, either as a Lead Discipline Field Engineer, Area Field Engineer, Project Field Engineer or equivalent.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- 10+ years of Field Engineering experience in process plant and/or combined cycle power plant construction. Preference given to those with combined cycle experience.
- Prior experience as a Lead Discipline Field Engineer, and/or Area Field Engineer desirable.
- Knowledge of direct hire construction.
- Experienced implementing and utilizing Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of construction activities relates to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
- Knowledge of the use of subcontracts. Knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
- Extensive background in construction projects, managing staff, providing leadership, maintaining good client relationships and developing talent within the project.
- Computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Familiar with current industry quality standards.
- Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
- Knowledge of cost management includes estimating and forecast development.
