Project Overview:

Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support their vision to provide the world access to lower carbon intensive energy with their Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in Brownsville, Texas.

 

RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984-acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and one marine berth. At full capacity, the five-train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

 

Job Summary:

A major part of the welding work on this project consists of the erection of the cylindrical LNG Tanks. In building these tanks, ensure safe work practices and conditions at worksite. Ensure all tank components that require welding comply with contract and design requirements. Ensuring all works are performed according to approved Specifications, Procedures and Plans. Ensure that the Construction team adhere to all necessary Codes and Methods Statements. Liaise with the customer and ensure that customer nominated inspection points are adhered to, as required by the Inspection & Test Plan. Assist with the coordination and compilation of the Manufactures Data Report. General Inspection of all welded steel included in the tank scope.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support welding & inspection of field erected tanks.
  • Coordinate inspection activities with tank project engineer using ITP and engineering drawings.
  • Provide specialized welding & inspection support for construction to ensure construction meets all code and Bechtel procedures including those found in the tank welding control manual.
  • Support set up and use of specialized tank welding equipment.
  • Support welding techniques and inspections that are special to tank construction.
  • Help manage the issue of weld filler materials for tank welders to meet Bechtel and Code requirements.
  • Help plan NDE activities of welding and coordinate with construction and Bechtel LFWE to support the overall tank construction schedule.
  • Help monitor welding qualification to ensure high quality welders are being tested and hired.
  • Execute the qualification of mechanized welding operators.
  • Help maintain welder qualifications and welder stamps.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety.
  • Provide leadership and takes personal accountability for site safety, environmental and health program.  

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience​.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Min. 10 years’ experience working with an industry known tank and vessel field construction/ inspection company(ies).
  • Prior experience in a welding technician role on large scale industrial direct hire API 650 / 620 or ASME Section VIII construction projects.
  • A minimum or 5 years’ experience in direct hire welding and NDE of tanks.
  • Knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Proficient with automatic tank welding equipment (AGW, AVW, LT-7’s), set-up, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
  • Must be certifiable by written examination to Bechtel's nondestructive examination requirements as NDE Level II Visual Examination.
  • Proficient in multiple welding processes applications.
  • Strong technical background and knowledge of all phases of tank welding applications and methods, and non-destructive examination relating to tank construction activities. 

 

Additional Information:

Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must be able to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e., harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.). 

 

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required that may include but not limited to nightshift or split shift.
