Project Overview:

Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support their vision to provide the world access to lower carbon intensive energy with their Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in Brownsville, Texas.

RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984-acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and one marine berth. At full capacity, the five-train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

The Infrastructure Global Business Unit (GBU) is executing site civil and marine scopes of work associated with our scopes of work on the Energy GBU LNG projects.

Job Summary:

The Marine Area Superintendent is responsible for activities relating to marine construction within the civil discipline. Duties include supervision of subordinate Superintendents, interpreting civil design drawings and specifications, steel and precast concrete erection, cast in place concrete, marine pile driving, field verification of materials, and technical direction to craft personnel as required. This position is not considered the design authority, but only to enforce civil construction per design.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned.
  • Schedules work to be performed, and reviews work accomplished by each craft.
  • Coordinate with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.
  • Determines workforce requirements.  
  • Coordinates established area operational plans.  
  • Responsible for quantity take-off (in conjunction with Field Engineering), quantity control, tracking, reporting and forecasting for civil discipline. 
  • Prepare cost estimates for civil construction activities and support preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports.
  • Validate and submit (discipline) construction quantities for Quantity Unit Rate Report (QURR) tracking.
  • Interface with Project Controls for submittal of quantities to ePCWorks.
  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.  
  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.   
  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents 
  • Manages engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Field and Design Engineering, and Foremen and Craft Professionals. 
  • Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the civil discipline such as marine pile driving, steel/precast concrete erection, etc.
  • Specify the civil criteria for construction of temporary construction facilities as required in conjunction with Field Engineering.
  • Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure civil materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a superintendent or other senior site position responsible for leading and managing staff professionals and a multidiscipline work force.
  • Experience in Piledriving and familiarity with Marine Construction
  • Direct hire construction experience on large scale project
  • Have working knowledge of structural construction operations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Must be familiar with current industry quality standards.
  • Basic knowledge of Project Technical Requests (PTR) for routing and resolving Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Documents (FCDs), and Non Conformance/Compliance Reports (NCRs) between project sites, contractors, clients, and home office.
  • Basic knowledge of work packaging and basic ability to manipulate completions module and PunchWorks for interface with the start-up team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
