Project Overview:
Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support their vision to provide the world access to lower carbon intensive energy with their Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in Brownsville, Texas.
RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984-acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and one marine berth. At full capacity, the five-train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead, implement, and maintain global construction field welding & NDE programs and provide specialized welding engineering and technical support. You will manage the NDE and NDE subcontractor program for the automated UT, You will also be responsible for NDE coordination, perform data analysis and maintain up to date records. Your technical expertise will help to ensure the success of the overall program. #LI-BH1
Major Responsibilities:
- Position requires previous experience in responsibilities typical of a NDE Level III.
- Support project requirements in the performance Austenitic Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) as the UT level III defined in this document and API 620 in Annex U.
- Oversee the AUT work of an NDE subcontractor working for Bechtel who will provide the equipment, procedures, and personnel to perform AUT per API 620 Annex U for the inner tank during the construction of multiple LNG storage tanks.
- Requires technical knowledge and experience of API 620 including Annex U in the construction of tanks constructed of 9% nickel and alloy weld filler materials as it relates to the performance of Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or AUT in lieu of RT.
- Support the development of details for demonstration blocks and calibration blocks for AUT to be fabricated by Bechtel.
- Support the review and qualification of AUT procedures by the NDE subcontractor.
- Support the qualification of NDE subcontractor personnel.
- Provide field support as required and review AUT scans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Corporate Level III and/or the Manager of Welding & NDE Services and/or the project lead field welding engineer.
- Candidate must be able to implement NDE procedures and techniques, develop and implement NDE training programs, implement NDE certification programs, provide NDE technical services and consultation to various types of design and construction projects.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Associate's degree in engineering / science study from a 2-year technical college or university preferred plus 10 years’ experience. In lieu of AS degree, must have 15 years’ combined industry experience with NDE methods, writing procedures, and providing training, and managing direct hire and subcontracted programs.
- Previous Level II certification will be considered with eventual qualification to Level III.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have comprehensive knowledge of Austenitic UT principles.
- Must have demonstrated ability to develop, qualify, and implement specialized ultrasonic examination techniques.
- Must have a minimum of 10 Years experience as a certified NDE Level II in applicable NDE methods.
- Must possess a high school diploma.
- Must have the right to work and remain in the United States.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a United States issued passport.
- Must have above average computer skills.
- Associate's degree in engineering/science study from a two-year technical college or university plus two years' experience as a certified NDE Level III, in applicable NDE methods. Previous Level II certification will be considered with eventual qualification to Level III.
- Past experience in implementing or providing oversight for API 620 Annex U or similar UT in lieu of RT program.
- Previous qualification in the leak testing, magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant methods is preferred.
- Additional study or minor degree in NDE / Materials Evaluation is considered equivalent.
- Strong UT skills and past experience with Time-of-Flight Diffraction (ToFD) and Phased-Array (P-A) Automated UT is a strong plus.
- SNT endorsement will be considered but is not required.
- Past EPRI UT qualification such as IGSCC endorsements, EPRI Flaw Sizing, ASME XI PDI, EPRI VT experience, or any other industry recognized qualification is a plus.
- Previous EPRI Training (IGSCC Detection, Planar Flaw Sizing, PDI, etc.
- Knowledge of Automated UT Systems (data acquisition and analysis)
