Project Overview:

Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support their vision to provide the world access to lower carbon intensive energy with their Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in Brownsville, Texas. RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984-acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and two marine berth. At full capacity, the five-train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s control systems aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of control systems components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure unique and complex requirements of a project’s control systems aspects are met.  #LI-ML1 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Configure and troubleshoot ABB 800xA Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) including Process Control, Emergency Shutdown and Fire & Gas 
  • Support loop checking, functional testing, and commissioning of instrumentation and systems 

  • Provides technical assistance to other Control Systems personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agencypersonnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues  

  • Provides assistance toproject and construction management inidentifying and complying with project Control Systems requirements and inaddressing issues as they arise during project execution  

  • Assisting the construction team in developing design changes to resolve field problems. Resident Engineers will be able to provide firsthand assistance in finding problem solutions. Resident Engineers approve Field Change Documents (FCDs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), obtaining Client approvals as necessary. 

  • Provide clarification on Engineering drawings and specifications, answering Requests for Information (RFIs) 

  • Provide technical direction and guidance to subcontractors who are performing design during the Construction phase of the subcontract, including document review where agreed with the home office 

  • Assurance that FCDs do not conflict with the intent of the design 

  • Provide field engineering support for instrumentation and control systems during construction, commissioning, and start-up phases 

  • Review and update design deliverables to reflect field changes and as-built conditions 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project specifications and timelines are met 
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in all field activities. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in LNG projects, preferably with APCI technology 
  • Experience with international projects and multicultural teams 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in instrumentation and control systems 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to conduct field walks and inspections under varying site conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders/scaffolding and working in confined spaces 
  • Must be able to wear and use appropriate PPE for assigned tasks 
  • Proficiency in project management tools and field inspection protocols 
  • Familiarity with construction practices, regulatory codes, and Bechtel standards 
  • Strong understanding of engineering work planning and control methods  
  • Strong understanding of the project Control Systems discipline deliverables 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail 
  • Managing a team of engineers from 3rd party package suppliers, ICSS vendor at site 
  • Requires proficiency in ABB 800xA ICSS configuration and troubleshooting of PCS, ESD and FGS system 
  • Requires proficiency in ABB 800xA ICSS Reuse library configuration 
  • Requires experience during Site Acceptance Testing
