Project Overview:
Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support their vision to provide the world access to lower carbon intensive energy with their Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project in Brownsville, Texas. RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal situated on a 984-acre site on the banks of the Brownsville ship channel. The first phase of the RGLNG project consists of three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks and one marine berth. At full capacity, the five-train facility will have a production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Job Summary:
The Common Directs Superintendent is responsible for managing and supervising all common direct activities across project areas, with a focus on concrete works, pump truck operations, formwork coordination, equipment utilization, and supplier performance. This role ensures efficient execution of site operations, alignment with project schedules, and optimization of shared resources to achieve productivity, safety, and quality targets. #LI-TH1
Major Responsibilities:
Concrete Operations
- Oversee and coordinate concrete orders across multiple areas.
- Review and make sure that concrete operation is going smoothly day to day with full coordination with all parties.
- Manage pump truck scheduling, deployment, and performance to meet construction demands.
- Ensure quality compliance with mix design, pour sequencing, and testing.
- Reviewing and approving the monthly invoices for each supplier.
Formwork Coordination
- Direct and supervise formwork preparation, installation, and dismantling activities.
- Interface with subcontractors to align formwork requirements, material availability, and productivity targets.
- Monitor formwork safety compliance and adherence to engineering specifications.
Equipment Utilization & Monitoring
- Monitor and manage utilization of common equipment such as manlifts, cranes, and other shared assets.
- Track percentage of equipment sharing across project areas to ensure fair allocation and minimize idle time.
- Report on equipment productivity, downtime, and cost efficiency.
Supervision & Coordination
- Provide direct oversight to field crews and subcontractors working under common directs scope.
- Ensure adherence to project schedule, safety policies, and quality standards.
- Conduct daily coordination meetings with area superintendents and construction managers to align priorities.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain records of daily concrete pours, equipment usage, pump allocation, and supplier performance.
- Provide weekly reports highlighting progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
- Support project controls in updating work progress and forecasting resource requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in all phases of construction operations relating to common direct activities and jobsite management.
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in subcontract management.
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in managing budgets and construction equipment
- Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy.
- Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan and the Bechtel Core Processes.
- Knowledge of the Project Construction Environmental Control Plan.
Knowledge is normally acquired through:
- A recognized degree in engineering or scientific discipline, or
- Specialized courses in construction management, and/or
- Prior work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above
Additional Information:
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required that may include but not limited to nightshift or split shift
Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
