ERA has engaged the global engineering firm, Bechtel, to support ERA as Delivery Partner for ongoing study work.


Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community.


Located 8 km east of Jabiru and 260 km south-east of Darwin, the Ranger Project will lead the way in the fast-growing area of mining closures.

Your Role

As our Turnover/Completions Engineer you will be a key part of our project team and  responsible for planning, directing and supervising the start-up/decommissioning engineering activities on the ERA Ranger Rehabilitation Project - with the technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments. 


This role will be based on site at the Ranger Mine jobsite offices where you will be assigned on a fly in/fly out roster (2 weeks on, 1 week off) flying to and from Darwin - with a drive to the Jabiru work site - where camp accommodation is provided.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs multidisciplined start-up/decommissioning activities for the assigned project(s). Provides start-up/decommissioning supervision or assistance at the jobsite as assigned.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned direct reports, estimates staffing needs and schedules, and assigns work to meet completion dates.
  • Participates in proposal preparation activities as required.
  • Prepares or directs the preparation of operations manuals.
  • Ensures that work being performed is within scope of services and within budget.
  • Inputs to project management, engineering, and construction to ensure start-up/decommissioning requirements are incorporated into project activities, including review of project designs and construction to ensure plant operability and project personnel safety.
  • Coordinates with client representatives to obtain approval to complete work.
  • Reviews and approves key start-up/decommissioning methods, procedures, and schedules on assigned project(s).
  • Directs the preparation of procedural manuals and other instructions which govern facility operations and maintenance and monitors adherence to same.
  • Ensures that all federal and state safety codes, requirements, and standards are complied with.
  • Implements, within area of responsibility, all safety and security programs adopted for the facility and ensures strict adherence to these programs.
  • Completes performance reviews for assigned direct reports and provides appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • Supervises and provides technical guidance to personnel assigned to the project for tasks within area of responsibility.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and directs the operation and maintenance activities of a small to medium-sized single-operation facility.
  • Provides backup support for the Site Manager and Project Field Engineer.

About you

  • A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, or
  • A professional license in an engineering discipline, or
  • A sufficient number of specialized courses in relevant general engineering or an appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Technical knowledge of start-up/decommissioning, operation, maintenance, or testing.
  • Knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of both engineering and start-up/decommissioning methods, and application of computers to engineering problems.
  • Extensive knowledge of precedents in the start-up/decommissioning and operations areas and a broad knowledge of principles and practices of related areas.
  • Broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to start-up/decommissioning, maintenance, operations, or testing.
  • Demonstrated skill in leadership.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Good knowledge of Bechtel’s (and/or similar EPCM) administrative processes and procedures and supervisory experience.
