Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. 

 

The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Chile, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

 

Our Supply Chain team is made up of experienced professionals across contracts, procurement, buying, expediting, supplier quality, and logistics who collaborate to deliver safe, efficient, and value‑driven outcomes. Job Summary:

As the Supply Chain Manager, you will provide leadership across Supply Chain activities supporting prospects, major studies, and projects. You will bring strong commercial judgement, strategic thinking, and people leadership to ensure Supply Chain strategies are competitive, compliant, and executable - supporting both business growth and successful project delivery.

 

Study/Project Delivery Focus:

  • Lead and develop Supply Chain teams, fostering a high‑performance, values‑driven culture.
  • Provide commercial leadership across contracts and procurement activities, ensuring alignment with business and project objectives.
  • Develop and implement Supply Chain strategies, plans, and procedures that drive value, manage risk, and support execution certainty.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Legal, Project Controls, Estimating, Health, Safety and Environment, Quality, Sustainability, Commercial, and Construction teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with internal governance, legal, and commercial requirements.
  • Apply sound commercial judgement to manage risk, resolve issues, and support informed decision‑making.
  • Drive continuous improvement by challenging existing practices and identifying more effective ways of working.
  • Prepare recommendations, reports, and briefings for major contracts and Supply Chain decisions.

 

Project Delivery Stream

  • Execute approved procurement and subcontracting strategies in line with project schedules, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Manage the full contract lifecycle from award through administration, claims management, and close‑out.
  • Lead commercial negotiations, variations, and dispute resolution to protect project interests and minimise claims exposure.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for schedule relief, cost optimisation, and claim avoidance.
  • Monitor and manage supplier and subcontractor performance across safety, quality, cost, and schedule metrics.
  • Work closely with Construction and site‑based teams to resolve commercial and supply chain issues impacting delivery.
  • Provide timely commercial reporting and recommendations to project leadership.

 

In the Prospects/Capture work focus stream, the Supply Chain Manager is a key member of the Capture Team, responsible for developing competitive, compliant, and executable Supply Chain strategies.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead Supply Chain input into studies, tenders, and proposals from early capture through submission.
  • Review Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to understand technical, commercial, contractual, and execution requirements.
  • Develop Supply Chain strategies, contracting models, and sourcing approaches aligned with bid objectives and risk appetite.
  • Prepare resourced Supply Chain staffing plans aligned with study and bid schedules.
  • Conduct commercial, technical, financial, and supply chain risk assessments for all tenders.
  • Develop procurement and subcontracting plans that support competitive pricing and executable delivery strategies.
  • Support commercial clarifications and negotiations during bid phases.
  • Manage the Supply Chain bid approval process, ensuring compliance with governance and legal standards.
  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to inform pricing, availability, and execution assumptions.
  • Capture lessons learned and feed insights into future bids and projects.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Extensive experience in Supply Chain, Contracts, and Procurement for major or mega projects.
  • Global project experience across office and site environments is desirable.
  • Proven leadership experience leading teams.
  • Experience with Low‑Cost Country Sourcing (LCCS) is advantageous.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong commercial acumen across multiple contracting and delivery models.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of end‑to‑end contract and procurement management.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex technical and commercial documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in time‑critical environments.
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively across cross‑functional teams.
